    Micheal McFarland grew up in Jasper, Texas, the son of a teacher and a barber in a small close-knit community. A gifted athlete, he received a scholarship to Baylor University, where he played strong safety while pursing his dream to become an educator. "I was always attracted to situations where things were not as they should be," he said. "I wanted to make them better."

    After college, he worked as a coach, teacher and principal at John Tyler High School before turning his attention to school administration. He served as an assistant superintendent in Champagne, Illinois, before returning to Texas to take the helm as superintendent of the Lancaster Independent School District. From 2010 to 2017, Dr. McFarland transformed Lancaster ISD from an underperforming district to an award-winning nationally recognized district.

    In 2015, Dr. McFarland was named Texas Superintendent of the Year, a testament to his outstanding leadership and commitment to creating and enhancing educational opportunites for all students. Currently, he serves as superintendent of Crowley ISD, where he is transforming the district through strategic partnerships and innovative programs, continuously working to "develop people." "I want to be remembered as a person that made people believe and helped them see that more was possible," he said.

Military service is at her core. As a child, Julie and her siblings lived with their parents at various bases in the U.S. and in foreign countries, an adventurous upbringing that shaped her future. In high school, she came to Fort Worth on a ROTC scholarship after being admitted to the early admission program at TCU. She later moved overseas and served as a captain in Desert Storm in the 98th General Hospital in Nuremberg, Germany.After the military, Julie landed a job at the largest contract management company in the world and climbed the corporate ladder. In 2019, a recruiter happened to contact her about the CEO job at the Tarrant Area Food Bank, and she jumped at the opportunity to make an impact and give back. She was named President and CEO and, about 60 days later, the COVID pandemic struck. Julie went into military crisis mode and, for the next two years, found a way to get food into the community at a time when they needed it most. "It reaffirmed for me that I was put in that position at that time for a reason," said Julie, who manages a $150 million budget and oversees 130 employees. "We partnered with organizations in ways that we had not before. We found creative ways to work together to reach people."
