  • A 20-Something Teenager
    May 15 2024

    Hosted by: Whitney Williams

Growing up can be tough, especially when there’s no course or manual on what to do or how to do it. The transition period between late teenagehood into your twenties, and then having to navigate your 20s can be confusing and daunting…well at least it is for me. This ‘self-help’ podcast will come from the perspective of me, a 24-year-old who’s technically an adult but still mentally feels like she never left teenagehood. Each podcast episode will track the different parts of my life through my 20s, thus far, that I believe would be relatable to other 20-something-year-olds. The overall podcast series will cover topics such as things I’ve learnt,

challenges with having to “grow up”, moving to a new city from my home country, entering a new career field (because I actually went to law school, became a lawyer and realized I wanted to get into Broadcast Journalism instead), etc. I’ll also have funnier, lighter episodes where I talk about the things from my childhood/ teenage hood that I haven’t quite let go of yet and why I think it’s important to retain these parts of my identity at 24 years old. Ultimately, I hope that through the transparency and humor of my journey so far in my 20s, it can entertain and help someone also navigating this scary period of learning about taxes and insurance!

For my first episode, I will be exploring the idea that your 20s are a weird period. Everyone seems to be at different stages, and the playing field seems unleveled, especially after coming out of high school and college where it felt like everyone was at the same general point in life. The fact that people your age could be at a totally different stage from you in your 20s is scary because you often start to compare your journey to theirs. Should I be doing what they’re doing? Am I doing it right? Why do they seem further ahead than I am? For this episode, I will be talking with my friend Emily Coffey. She’s a 24-year-old broadcast journalism graduate

student, like me. The major difference between us is that she got engaged last year and is currently planning for her wedding next year. On the other hand, the thought of a serious relationship hasn’t even been on my radar. I’m just trying to make it to the end of the semester and graduate with a job offer! This is a prime example of how two 20-something-year-olds, who are the same age, studying in the same field at the same school, have two different perspectives and expected outcomes of how their lives in the next year will go. It’s okay at this age to get married ad it’s okay if you don’t want

to. The point is everyone’s journey in their 20-somethings is totally different- it’s about coming to terms with that and focusing on your journey after living

your life in a mostly structured social setting where everyone was at the same level.

Kim Kardashian and Wide Receiver O'Dell Beckham call it quits after 2 weeks of going public. Angel Reese and Cam’ron Flecther break which leaves many to wonder what exactly happened between the two.
