President Joe Biden leaves office with an all-time low approval rating. He doesn't get it; he doesn't recognize his many mess ups. Biden's farewell speech was pathetic.
The Supreme Court would not issue stay to prevent NY Judge Juan Merchan from sentencing Trump. Of course the sentence was no fine, no prison time, and no conditions--just a total discharge. But Merchan insisted on the sentence to make Trump a felon. I suspect that will change on appeal; the Supreme Court felt Trump could proceed with an appeal to address that. Frankly, the Court should have taken the case to make the point that a state cannot try to regulate and punish a presidential candidate for violating state laws that actually conflict with federal campaign regulations. This is what we call a preemption and preclusion issue. Chief Justice Robert and Justice Barrett should have voted with the other four conservative Justices to make a definitive statement about this.
