The Great Commission
Matthew 28:16-20
“The eleven disciples” verse 16
The word “eleven” reminds of the loss of Judas Iscariot who betrayed Christ then later committed suicide. Judas’ loss reduced the count of the disciples to eleven. The case of Judas has many modern-day illustrations, such folk start well and seem to be ready and willing to serve Christ. But they fall out by the way and do not make it into His service.
“All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” verse 18 To understand this text on power, it is important to know that the word translated “power” primarily means “authority” not strength or might. Before Christ gives the disciples the commission, He first informs them of the authority for the commission.
if you would fulfill the great commission given you, you must recognize Him as authority over you.
