The Influence Of A Public Speaker

  • Résumé

  • In our first episode, we are going to discuss the influence and power that a public speaker has.

The audience consists of many individuals who all have different needs. The art of successful public speaking is talking to your audience as if you were talking to someone. This is a measure of success in public speaking to really influence your audience, to really connect with them on a personal level and to involve them in what you share with them.

When we talk to someone individually, there are things that help us connect with that person, such as:

    • Making good eye contact
    • Walking towards them
    • Asking the right questions
    • Telling a great story
    • Smiling and engaging them

    Plus much more.

As speakers, they encourage interaction between the audience because the audience wants to be entertained, and informed and eager personal moderators are people who connect with their audience so that the audience feels like they are part of the presentation and responds to it to the speaker.

A surefire way to increase audience engagement is to ask your audience questions or make them do something active - even something as simple as writing down some ideas. Then you have to interact with the audience and it feels like connecting with you as a moderator.

People also want to know how the information you provide to them as a speaker helps them. Let them do things that make them think about using your information. You get more interaction and audience involvement when people feel that the information is suitable for them as individuals and that they can apply it in their work and life.

To get audience participation, it's important to know who your audience is and why you are presenting it. When preparing a presentation, you should ask yourself:

What is the purpose of my presentation?

What is really interested in my audience?

What are the characteristics of my viewers?

What will be very useful for my audience?

You will present yourself differently depending on the type of people who make up your audience. You will not present your material to a group of managers in the same way as a group of students or a group of seniors. Although your topic may be the same for all of these audiences, what you focus on and how you present your material focuses on the type of people you listen to.

Because of that interaction with the audience and audience involvement is very important for success when speaking in public. The secret is understanding your audience and connecting personally with them as individuals.

Remember that the more engagement and involvement of the audience during your presentation, the more you will be remembered and responded as your speaker and message.
