This requires you to keep on the path of raising your awareness about who you are, what you stand for, what you’re in the world - as an energy - to be and to do. So many people are operating from external cues. They morph to their circumstances because they don’t really know who they are. We’re all exposed to a constant barrage of information - news that we no longer trust, stuff that we don’t need, gossip that doesn’t add value to anyone or anything, and endless streams of blather. It actually causes me to pause periodically and think, “Wow, am I just adding to the noise?” But, then I’m able to counter-balance it with the next thought about integrity. What is it that I’m here to do? I have a passion and desire to help others embrace the freedom of being who they’re created to be. And the way I do that is through speaking, writing music, telling stories and sharing it with those who are hungry to know they’re made for more. Because you are! And when you really embrace that, your life becomes a lot more rich. Living in integrity means you know your value. And you naturally feel more ALIVE. When you feel free and comfortable in your own skin, you experience so much more of what life has to offer and you’re able to love others with much greater capacity. Judgment naturally falls by the wayside because you recognize that we’re all seeking to find ourselves, to be seen, understood and loved. When you learn to love yourself, you become a natural guide to lead others into their integrity. It’s exciting, exhilarating, and it provides you with a sense of abundance and fulfillment that you can’t find otherwise. We all have a yearning to get back to our true selves - out from under ideas about who we should be. I heard this description and I’m not sure where it came from, but I love it and it feels true - that’s that we all have a "God-sized hole" that we’re trying to fill with anything and everything - when the only thing that actually can fill it is God. There’s no amount of money or stuff or accolades and awards that can fill it. That’s why there are many rich people who are miserable while some of the poorest live with a sense of joy. I’m not advocating being poor. I’m all for creating financial wealth. Because money is a physical currency in our world that betters lives and allows us to create and experience new innovations, education, travel and so on. It’s the distinction that the money itself is what brings fulfillment when it cannot do that. Not without the potent energy of the Spirit that is Love and Life in the first place. I wrote a song some years ago and recorded it with my band, Frankly Scarlet (duo with my sister, Kelly Brown). It's called "Beautiful". I was talking with a friend, at the time, who had just gone through a breakup and was recognizing that she had lost herself in the relationship. The way she dressed, the car she drove, restaurants she frequented, and even her religious choices had become something she didn’t recognize as herself during the course of the relationship.

    Celebrate the Season with the magical Spirit of Music. It's a time for celebration, reflection, and connection. Whether you’re reveling in Christmas cheer, lighting Hanukkah candles, or embracing Cool Yule vibes, this time of year encourages traditions with family, friends, or moments of solitude. In this spirit, let’s delve into the power of music to heal and elevate our spirits. For many years, I've had the pleasure of performing holiday music with my sister, both as Frankly Scarlet and more recently as Local Honey. This holiday season, I’m excited to share some fun moments from rehearsal and some archived performances that embody the joy and warmth of the season. But amid the festivities, I want to acknowledge that not everyone finds this time of year easy. For those who are grieving or struggling, I hope these songs offer solace and remind you that you are seen and loved. Music possesses a transformative power; it's an opening to let your heart be vulnerable, laugh, cry, and ultimately, heal. It's this healing force that I've experienced firsthand through both joyful and sorrowful holidays. Let's take this musical journey together, making allowances for every emotion that the season evokes. Stories Behind the Songs One of my favorite songs to perform is "Holiday Cheer," originally written by my sister for the National Cheerleaders Association. It was a short, upbeat piece that transformed into a full song—packed with all the good dance vibes I love. I hope it brings a spark to your holidays, too. Another song that holds incredible importance to me is "Mary's Very First Christmas.” A trip I took to Jerusalem right after Christmas, was filled with unexpected silence due to laryngitis, and it turned into a pilgrimage of introspection and awe. It was during this trip that my uncle, Wood Newton, sent me a demo of this song, and performing it with him later at the Bluebird Cafe, then recording it in Nashville with my sister, was a full-circle moment I’ll never forget. The Heartstrings "Jingle" Moving through a time of loss, my sister composed a hauntingly beautiful arrangement of "Jingle Bells." It captures the bittersweet essence of life’s transitions and the inherent joy within the Christmas season. Its delicate melancholy, along with the light snowfall as we drove through our hometown, listening, created a backdrop for both tears and deep gratitude during our mother’s transition from this world. Moving Emotions Medieval carols conjure such a magical, mystical experience for me. I’ve always loved the minor vibrations coupled with lyrics that paint a picture of a different world. There’s something very healing about them. The Naked Vibes Show is a mix of the sacred with the sensual, illustrating the myriad facets of our human experience. I think you’ll feel the vibe when you hear my sister Kelly’s version of "Santa Baby" coupled with ”Coventry Carol" and "O Come, O Come Emmanuel”. Embracing Divine Love This season reminds us that divine love penetrates even the darkest moments. It invites us to pour out gratitude and light to those around us, acknowledging that we are all woven together by the thread of love. I was thinking about Peter Gabriel's IO concert and what a soul-opening experience it was. Being enveloped in his songs and the sounds of the brilliant musicians performing with him rekindled my own creative spark after a period of feeling creatively dampened. Geniuses all – Peter Gabriel, Tony Levin, David Rhodes, Manu Katche and more. Thrilling! Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Spiritual Energy Life's challenges, grief, fatigue, and mental games can often dim our creative light. Yet, there is immense power in spiritual energy, which continuously flows through us, inspiring new creations. I feel like this is especially crucial for men to explore and embrace. The rising suicide rates highlight the need for openly expressing emotions and nurturing creativity to stave off feelings of insignificance. Cultivating Your Creative Spark The secret to maintaining creative energy lies in understanding what ignites your passion. For me, one of the biggies is Rock ‘n Roll! It's vital to identify your sources of inspiration, whether through music or other creative outlets, to replenish your energy reserves. Small Beginnings: The Path to Manifestation Often, we’re so focused on the end result that we neglect the journey itself. Engaging in creativity, even in short bursts, can lead to profound satisfaction. Creating time for your passion, even ten minutes a day, can make a life-changing difference in your overall well-being. Those moments can accumulate into something significant over time. Creativity as a Life Purpose Your creative ideas are a divine spark, a calling. They possess the potential for personal satisfaction and, possibly, global transformation.
