  • Episode 45 - Andrea Martineau, Doc Varga, & SJ Anderson
    Jun 18 2024

In May, I taught a small 5-week marketing class for authors through the Alexander Writers’ Center Society. During the last class, I sprung an impromptu podcast recording session on three of them and they rose to the occasion! We discuss the challenges of marketing as an author, authenticity in marketing, choosing a writing genre, the rewards of being a writer, and the value of a writing community.

Andrea Martineau (she/her) is a poet, writer, and arts administrator residing on Treaty Four Territory in oskana kâ-asastêki (Regina, Saskatchewan), where she is working on a short poetry manuscript and her first psychological thriller. Andrea is 1/6 of the Canty Collective of Writerly Women and her poetry has previously been published in untethered magazine and Blank Spaces. Find her online at www.andreamartineau.ca and @andreamartineauwrites.

Doc Varga is a speculative fiction writer with AKA Literary Agency. A lover of all things dark and creepy, he loves stories that leave the reader both happy and haunted. He is a proud member of the Writing Away Refuge writers community and likes cats. A lot. He can be found at www.docvarga.com and on Instagram @docvarga

SJ Anderson writes thrillers, romance and ghost stories. She lives in Western Canada with her family who know to scrub her Google search history if the police ever knock on the door.

    Jun 4 2024

Erin Roberts, co-host of the Writing Excuses Podcast and a fantastic speculative fiction and game writer, joins StoryCentric this week to drop some serious truth about the von Trapp family of singers, among other things. We had such a great (hilarious) conversation that included working in television, working with non-profits, and vigorously defending soap operas and their value to the art of storytelling.
