  • Résumé

  • This is the Trace. Here you will hear conversations with a wide variety of guests about religion, politics, movies, music, and more. We get into the personal and the political here so beware; all of those things that we are told not to talk about are on the table here. Who is it that doesn’t want us talking about sex, politics, class, and religion anyways? Here we will talk openly about all of those topics and more. I am Andrew Hackett. Welcome to The Trace.

  • S5 E4 - An Introduction to Larry Norman
    Jul 1 2024

These days The Trace is primarily about movies but I do like to mix it up ocassionaly with a focus on music. In this case it's an episode devoted to "The Father of Christian Rock" Larry Norman. This guy lived a strange life and remains an iconoclast after his death in 2008. Here is your chance to get an overview of the life, times, and music of this wild character.

This episode is goes out to my parents who played me Norman's music since birth and also to my friend Bob Enslow who I've been trying to convert to Larry's work for years.

Let's go back in time to the late-60's and trace the myth of the one of a kind Larry Norman.

  • S5 E3 - Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me
    Jun 21 2024

This episode goes out to my dear friend Arielle Heighton! She requested "Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me" which is certainly an intimidating film to talk about but also one of my very favorites.

I re-watched both the movie plus "The Return" in prep for the episode. The other title here could be "The Passion of Laura". Let's get into it.

  • S5 E2 - This is The End
    May 28 2024

    And The Trace is back!

This episode goes out to my teenage son Dylan. He specifically requested on episode on the 2013 apocalyptic comedy "This is the End". Los Angeles, movie stars, weed, demon possession, and non-sensical attempts at understanding eschatology. The movie is a blast.

It's a pleasure to watch a raunchy comedy like this when looking into the ideology behind the jokes. And this movie actually does have a perspective about morality, friendship, and the temptation towards egoism in Hollywood.

To quote Craig Robinson, "Welcome to heaven motherfuckers".

*the episode begins and ends with tracks by Larry Norman. The songs are "I Wish We'd All Been Ready" and "Nightmare #71".
