  • Theoretikally R&B: Ain't Too Proud to Beg. Episode 47
    Feb 20 2025

On this episode of Theoretikally R&B, we discuss the pushing pride to the side for the one you love. The desire to be acknowledged, touched and loved by the object of your desire, can at times lead to begging. From the smooth desperation from Marvin Gaye suggesting a close of distance in 'Distant Lover', to the harmonious hurt of Switch and the comfort that is received when "I Call Your Name". Begging has been part of R&B since the beginning of music. Through the years, Begging has been perfected by the king of the whine, Keith Sweat and danced to by the great Janet Jackson. We even discuss generational begging from Boyz II Men to WanMor giving their versions of "Please don't go". This episode will have you begging for more!

  • Theoretikally R&B: Give The Drummer Some. Episode 45
    Jan 30 2025

There is no better sound at a live concert than hearing "give the Drummer some"! Normally in our discussions on Theoretikally R&B, we discuss the best voices and lyrics of R&B which sometimes has us gloss over the music and musicians that accompany the voices. On this episode, we highlight some of the instruments that battle for top billing on the track. Whether it's the drum solo on 'I want to be free' or the strings on Tony Toni Tone, 'Anniversary'. We take a musical journey in instrumentation starting with the guitar of Ernie Isley and ending with the Saxophone of Boney James.

Hit play and listen for the band's contribution to some of our favorite songs.
