  • Grace
    Oct 16 2025

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 16th of October, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We start in the Book of John 1:17:

For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”

Oh folks, what an incredible promise from God - grace!

What is grace? Young man, young lady, you might ask, “What is grace?” Well, the definition of grace is undeserved loving kindness or unmerited favour. We can’t earn it, we can’t buy it, it is free! It is given to us by our Heavenly Father through His Son, Jesus Christ.

The most famous scripture verse in the whole Bible is John 3:16:

For God so loved the world (you and me) that He gave His only begotten Son, (only one, no other) that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

    What a promise!

When I became a new Christian, it was a long time ago, not far off fifty years ago, I remember one day walking through my maize crop and I was carrying all the burdens of the world on my shoulders. I felt totally unworthy to receive such a gift from God. I had just given my life to Jesus, and then the penny dropped. The Lord impressed upon my heart, “You’ve given your life to me, you’ve given your family to me, you’ve given your farming business to me. So now I am in control and you are purely a manager.” You know, you cannot believe how the weight fell off my shoulders. As they say, the penny dropped, my eyes were opened. I realised what grace was all about.

We can’t earn our way to heaven. Yes, we have the Ten Commandments as I shared just recently, and they are to be obeyed, but they cannot be obeyed without the grace of God and I was free. So if a storm came over and destroyed my maize, which was my only source of income in those days, “That was fine, Lord, what have You got next for me?” If I had sick child, I would pray for the child and leave the child in God’s hand, so that the absolute responsibility was passed on to Jesus Christ.

When He died on the cross He said, ”It is finished.” Everything is completed. Now, what we need to do is go out and tell the world that Jesus has paid for all our sin. All we have to do is to believe that He has done it and to wait for His soon coming.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,
    Goodbye.

  • Be Humble
    Oct 15 2025

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 15th of October, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We start in the Book of John 1:15:

“John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ ”

(John the Baptist talking about Jesus Christ).

Then we go to the Gospel of Matthew 18:4:

“Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

We are talking today about humility. I have heard humility described as controlled strength. A humble person doesn’t have to be a soft person. What do they say about Moses? They said the softest part of Moses was his teeth! If you don’t understand what I am saying, young person, ask your dad. He will tell you. He was a tough man to lead the whole nation through the desert for forty years.

John the Baptist, there was nothing soft about him, but the amazing thing is, Jesus says, ”There has never been a man born from the womb of a woman, greater than John the Baptist.” What a compliment, coming from the Master!

I want to tell you a little story. I read a book called, “Take Your glory Lord.” It was the life story of a Zulu pastor who lived down in the South Coast of Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. His name was William Duma. He was an extremely anointed preacher and had a wonderful healing ministry. He was invited up into Zambia, to preach at a Baptist churc,h and the church was packed on that Sunday morning. They were all waiting to hear the word of God from this man from South Africa, and he was late! 9 o’clock came and there was no sign of him. The pastor of the church was worried. He thought, “I will just have to pull one of my sermons out of my top pocket” because he just wasn’t coming. Then all of a sudden, he heard a knock-knock through the curtain that separated the back door, where the cleaning lady would come in and where everything was stored. He went through the curtain, opened the door and there was the man of God, standing at the servant’s entrance - humility!

Today, go out and be humble. Be humble, prefer your fellowman to yourself. Don’t forget the older people. Don’t forget to take care of the young children, and Jesus Christ will do the rest!

    God bless you and goodbye.

  • The Ten Commandments
    Oct 14 2025

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 14th of October, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We go straight to the Book of Exodus 20:1-17:

    God spoke all these words:

    I am God, your God,

who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of a life of slavery.

    No other gods, only me.

No carved gods of any size, shape, or form of anything whatever, whether of things that fly or walk or swim. Don’t bow down to them and don’t serve them because I am God, your God, and I’m a most jealous God, punishing the children for any sins their parents pass on to them to the third, and yes, even to the fourth generation of those who hate me. But I am unswervingly loyal to the thousands who love me and keep my commandments.

No using the name of God, your God, in curses or silly banter; God won’t put up with the irreverent use of his name.

Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Work six days and do everything you need to do. But the seventh day is a Sabbath to God, your God. Don’t do any work—not you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your servant, nor your maid, nor your animals, not even the foreign guest visiting in your town. For in six days God made Heaven, Earth, and sea, and everything in them; he rested on the seventh day. Therefore God blessed the Sabbath day; he set it apart as a holy day.

Honor your father and mother so that you’ll live a long time in the land that God, your God, is giving you.

    No murder.

    No adultery.

    No stealing.

    No lies about your neighbour.

No lusting after your neighbour’s house—or wife or servant or maid or ox or donkey. Don’t set your heart on anything that is your neighbour’s.”

These are the Ten Commandments and I’ve read them to you through the Message Bible version, and then I can hear somebody say, ”I am a New Covenant man. These don’t apply to me anymore.” Oh, my dear friend, listen to me, they do. They apply to every one of us. If you look at the Gospel of Matthew 5:17:

“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.”

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,
    Goodbye.

  • From the Beginning
    Oct 13 2025

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Monday morning, the 13th of October, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We go to the Gospel of John 1:1-4:

”In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God (that’s Jesus), and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.”

Wow, I just love that scripture folks! You have no idea how much I love that Scripture! That’s why I love the Bible so much, because Jesus Christ is the Word and when somebody says to you, ”Show me this Jesus you’re always talking about, I can’t see Him,” give him a Bible because Jesus is the Word.

I want to say to the younger people, this Big Bang theory, it doesn’t hold anything at all. It’s a lie, I’m telling you, a lie from the pit of hell! They’ll tell you that this whole beautiful universe of ours started by some chemical explosion. I want you to ask them a question, ”Who made the chemical explosion?” And they’ll say to you, ”And how can you prove that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” You can say, ”Because the Bible tells me, “In the beginning…” He was there in the beginning with His Father.” So that holds a lot more water than talking about some big explosion. In the beginning, “I Am” was there. He’s always been there and He always will be there.

Now, I’m not a scientist, no, no, I’m a farmer, but I want to tell you, I defy any scientist to prove to me. We’ll go for a walk into the field and I’ll show him spring. It’s spring here on the farm at Shalom and the leaves are coming out on the trees that have been dormant right through the winter. I see a newborn calf, I see the wild animals are breeding at the moment, it’s a wonderful time of the year, but every season is a wonderful time of the year. You know why? Because Jesus made it all. He made it all, from the beginning.

So, Jesus bless you today as you celebrate the wonderful truth that in the beginning was the Word and His name is Jesus Christ.

God bless you and have a wonderful day,
    Goodbye.

  • His Word
    Oct 12 2025

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 12th of October, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We start in the Book of Isaiah 55:11:

So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; It shall not return to me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”

Then we go to the Gospel of Matthew 5:9:

Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called the sons of God.”

Now I want to tell you a little story and I want you to hear my heart here. I’m not talking about myself or our team, I’m talking about the word of God. This little “Thought for Today”, which has been going for almost six years, is played every morning in police stations, in front of all the constables when they are standing at ease, oh, yes, I’ve seen the videos, they’ve sent them to me. At school assemblies, before work starts, at Bible colleges, which is a great honour for me, every morning. In hospitals, in wards, and we give all the glory to Jesus Christ. The word of God never returns void. It always accomplishes that which it is sent for, and of course, the peace makers. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.

The other night, a beautiful family came and stayed with us - three young boys, their mom, and their dad. We were having supper together, and the mother said, ”I just want to tell you that I play the 'Thought for Today' every morning when I take the children to school. She said, ”They always used to fight. You know how they fight, “I want to sit at the door. It’s my turn now.” Yes, we know. I had five of my own. She said now that she puts on the “Thought for Today” every morning, there is absolute quietness in the motorcar. That means more to me than anything.

So we want to give Jesus Christ all the praise, honour and glory because His Word brings peace wherever it is spoken.

Jesus bless you, have a lovely day and send that little message out as far and as wide as you can.
    Goodbye.

  • Do It With Might
    Oct 11 2025

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 11th of October, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

If we go to the Book of Ecclesiastes 9:10:

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might,…

    Whatever you do!

A friend came to see me and gave me a little booklet. It’s called “The Practice of the Presence of God”, by a monk who lived over 300 years ago. His name was Brother Lawrence. He was a Frenchman, and this book has really impacted me. This man was just a monk in a monastery, he was nothing special, but he had the presence of God in his life all the time.

He was actually the cook in the monastery and he would be cooking in the kitchen and while he was cooking he was praying, and he had the presence of the Lord in him so whatever he did, whether it was cooking, washing the dishes (by the way, he also mended sandals for the other monks in the monastery although he himself always walked barefoot) but he continually had the Presence of God in his life. So he would be cooking in the kitchen and a group of other monks would be there asking him questions, ”What about this?” and “What about that?” And he managed to do it all together.

Now I’m thinking of mothers today. You are struggling to get the sandwiches made for the children for school, trying to organise dad’s clothes, and wondering, ”When am I going to have my quiet time?” Well, Brother Lawrence had a quiet time 24/7, so there is no excuse for us. You and I can do exactly the same as Brother Lawrence. We can condition ourselves, discipline our hearts and minds, and think about heavenly things, praying and singing as we do our work!

Whether you are working in a garage, fixing a motorcar, you’ll find the customer might be standing by and asking you questions, ”Why have you got so much peace in your heart? Why are you always happy?” A doctor - what an opportunity when someone is not well, to be able to encourage them with the Word of God, not so much by preaching but just by the presence of the Lord in your heart.

Today, use every opportunity that you have to speak to others about the blessed Lord Jesus Christ, and you don’t have to be a preacher. You just have to do your work and to do it well and God will do the rest.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,
    Goodbye.

  • Cast Your Cares
    Oct 10 2025

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Friday morning, the 10th of October, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We go to 1 Peter 5:7:

Casting your care upon Him (Jesus) for He cares for you.”

Why? Because we cannot carry it on our own. I’m talking to somebody who is very tired at the moment, who is very weary, heading up a large organisation, maybe a farming business or a merchandise business, or a position in an organisation that takes all of your time, and it is wearing you out. The Lord says, ”Stop it. I never meant it to be like that.” We cannot carry this responsibility completely on our own. “You’ve done well, you started well”, the Lord says. “You’ve built a huge organisation but now that same organisation is busy crushing you.”

We see the illustration in Exodus 18, where Jethro, the father-in-law of Moses saw that Moses was literally wearing himself out, and the people. They were standing in large queues all day long for some help for answers to difficult situations. Jethro said, ”You must delegate to others.” I’m saying to you too madam. You cannot do it on your own. You have to get people to help you. Hand it over. You say, ”But they’ll ruin it. My children will ruin it.” No they won’t, you’ll be surprised. How old were you when you started?

Yes, you will have to pay school fees. That’s how you learn. Did you not pay school fees? Did you not make mistakes? Of course you did. So did I, too many actually! Give your children a chance. Give that young aspiring executive a chance to take over. For the Mighty Men Conference in 2010, I had to make a very big decision when we had 450 thousand men on this farm, and the Lord clearly told me, through His word, ”It’s time to hand over the baton.” I was very concerned, but I’m so pleased I did.

There’s over 20 Mighty Men Conferences happening all over the world as I talk to you, and I haven’t been to one of them. Hand it over so that the Lord can develop it. If you keep it to yourself, it will crush you and the vision.

Today, cast your cares and responsibilities onto the Lord, and He will develop them.
    Jesus bless you and goodbye.

  • Run Together
    Oct 9 2025

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 9th of October, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We go straight to the Book of Exodus 17:11:

And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.”

I want to say something to you now, Moses was on top of the hill. Joshua and Moses’ men were fighting the enemy, Amalek, down in the valley. As long as Moses had his hand and his rod up in the air, Joshua was winning the battle. However, every time Moses grew tired and his arms started to sag, the enemy gained the advantage. So, what happened? Aaron, Moses’ brother and Hur, one on either side, held up the hands of the man of God and the battle was won.

I want to speak particularly to a lot of old gentlemen listening to this message today. You say, ”Well, what can I do now? I have retired.” Sir, there is no such word in the Bible as retirement. Promotion, but not retirement. I want to tell you, Moses wasn’t a young man, otherwise he would have been in the fight, but Moses was probably holding the most important position of all. He was standing in front of the Lord, with his arms raised, holding his rod, and the young men were doing the fighting. Do not despise your age, and that goes for older ladies as well. Don’t think, well the young girls are doing it now, what can I do?

A gentleman came to see me a few years back. I was a young man then. He said to me, ”Angus, I can’t go down the well anymore but I can stand at the top and hold onto the rope, while you go down.” Today, you can help the young men, you can help the young women, by holding onto the rope. You know, when you’re standing on the hill, you can see where the young men and the young women are going because you’ve got a better view. You’ve got better direction for them. They sometimes are going around in a circle and you can say, ”No, go straight on.”

    Jesus said in John 14:6:

    I am the way…”

Please show them the way. We need to help each other. That’s why God has given us a position as older people, and He has given young people a special position as well.

Today, let us run this race together!
    Jesus bless you and goodbye.
