The transformation from Flatlanders on the surface of Sphereland to Poppers immersed in Deepland  was enabled by a paradigm shift to the view that spirituality is rooted in a transcendent realm of physicality.  With just these two concepts it is possible to understand what went wrong in the initial Flatlander response to their equivalent of Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity.
