  • Shamayim Harris, lovingly known as 'Mama Shu,' watched with sorrow as Highland Park, the neighborhood where she grew up in Detroit, Michigan slowly became blighted with crime, vacant buildings, and trash flooding the streets. It would be in this same neighborhood that Mama Shu tragically lost her two sons, decades part, due to violence in their community.
