  • The Know Show – has it really only been four weeks?
    Feb 21 2025

Yes it has and it’s a whole lot worse than most thought possible. Of course, we’re not just talking about the chaos in the US, but everything else too - Canada, Mexico, Panama, Greenland, Gaza, China, Ukraine, Russia, to name a few, along with, of course, challenging the very foundations of Europe – that went down well, didn’t it?

Are we witnessing the creation of a New World Order in real-time, as many claim? It certainly can’t be ruled out, so what does it mean for the rest of us? How will the ripples ‘ripple’ out and impact our lives? Can we expect world leaders to respond with strength, or will they be weak? We’ll discuss the signs so far. And what about Europe specifically - what can we expect there? Then again, we could be witnessing the collapse of the US Empire (as many predict) an event of such enormous scale, it would turn the world on its head. If that happens, let’s just say: no empire has ever ‘died’ gently…

It's a tense time and everyone is on tenterhooks quite rightly, and that’s why we are absolutely delighted to welcome the amazing Jessica Figueras to join us this week. Based in the UK - which means she’s bringing a perspective from the UK/EU - Jess is Chair of Trustees for the UK Cyber Security Council and Co-Founder of CxB, which focuses on Cyber Governance for Boards. She’s been named one of Computer Weekly's Most Influential Women in UK Tech (2024, 2023, 2022 and 2021), and is a Security Unsung Heroes Awards winner (2024) too. Essentially, Jess works at the intersection of technology, government and civil society in the fields of cyber security and trust, online safety, risk, regulation, and social impact. She also has a very keen mind for politics, so we can’t wait to hear what she has to say.

The Livestream kicks off at 3pm Singapore time/7am UK time, Friday 21st February 2025. Come and join us, this is going to be a great conversation!

  • Climate Courage: is Trump irrelevant?
    Feb 14 2025

Climate Courage is back for 2025 and it’s just the three of us this week, as we have a lot to catch up on since our last show. To get off to a hot start, we’ll discuss Donald Trump and team, asking the very simple question: is Trump even relevant in the fight for our future? We’ll aim to pull apart the potential impact the next four years could have on global climate action, and we’ll dig into the numbers too. Considering the state of our planet and the threats made so far – especially based on actions and executive orders over the last three weeks – how can the world counter it? Should we just accept that Trump and the GOP is irrelevant? And what about China’s role in the mix?

News on the planetary crisis seems to go from bad to worse, with January 2025 1.75°C above pre-industrial levels when it was expected to get cooler, a reality that has been called ‘terrifying’ by climate scientists after defying expectations. Then James Hansen and team released their report Global Warming Has Accelerated, with 2°C warming now dead too, causing a flurry of conversations and arguments in the climate science community.

As the years go on, and already in 2025, we are seeing significant environmental disasters, with extreme weather acceleration predicted. Should we finally grasp it’s time to view all these wildfires and storms as the planet warning us with practice runs?

And we better get ready for more, because in the Arctic this month we saw temperatures 20°C above average for this time of year, while news out of Antarctica continues to show dramatic changes, but it’s not just happening to the planets extremities, glacial losses in the third pole are accelerating too. We are seeing extreme permafrost melt across the Northern latitudes, which could release massive amounts of methane very quickly, and the West Coast of Australia has exceeded 50°C in the last week, while the East is under water, to name a few.

Come and join us for some Valentine’s Day love of the planet, Friday, 14th February 2025 – 3pm Singapore time, and 7am UK time, or listen to the recording afterwards. We livestream to multiple locations, so follow us on social media.

Climate Courage is a livestream, held every two weeks and is co-hosted by Andrea T Edwards, Dr. David Ko and Richard Busellato. On the show, we cover critical topics across the full spectrum of the polycrisis, in everyday language, and we go big picture on the climate crisis, while also drilling down and focusing on the actions we can all take to be part of the solution. Whether individual action, community action, or national/global action - every single one of us can be part of ensuring a live-able future for our children and grandchildren. We owe them that!

  • The Know Show – the zone has been flooded with shit, seeking clarity
    Feb 7 2025

It’s time to get the show on the road after a long break, and boy a lot has happened since our last show in December. Our 2025 kick off will just be the three of us – Andrea, Joe and Tim – with the goal of trying to make sense of what’s going on, which is not easy, because there’s not a lot of clarity out there, even from the best voices globally.

We’re going to cover as much as we can, from the actions of Donald Trump to Elon Musk and DOGE, the Democrats apparent vapid response, the power behind the power, the ripping up of the normal world order and what it means, AI, Gaza, global aid and of course, climate change. There’s a lot to discuss and this will definitely be a more freewheeling discussion than normal.

One of the key issues that keeps coming to the fore as we try to grasp the enormity and complexity of the situation we are in – whether we are American or not – is a lack of imagination about what it all means and how big this really is. Where is it taking us? What should we expect? And how do we get our minds prepared, when the world is changing so dramatically? Lots to discuss and we’d love to have you with us.

The Livestream kicks off at 3pm Singapore time, Friday 7th January 2025. Ask questions, challenge assumptions, give us your view. In fact, if you want, come and join us as a guest.

The Know Show is a Livestream held every fortnight on Friday, where Andrea T Edwards, Tim Wade and Joe Augustin, and at least one special guest, review the news that’s getting everyone’s attention, as well as perhaps what requires our attention. • The Know Show – 2024 was one heck of a year, a look back
    Dec 13 2024

It’s our last show of the year and that means we’ll take the opportunity to look back at the major news that happened around the world in 2024 – how much do you remember? Or perhaps it all became a blur? Or maybe you haven’t been paying attention at all and this is your chance to catch up in one go?

We’ll discuss geopolitical developments across the world, including the results of more than 50 per cent of the world’s population going to the polls. From elections to wars, what happens next is what we are all waiting to see - will everything get better, or a whole lot worse?

The climate has been off the charts this year, with extreme weather events hitting every corner of the globe, and the ramifications have been enormous, but it’s the wider impacts over time we often miss – financial impacts, permanent destruction, food security, and beyond. A lot of records were set in 2024 in the climate space – not good records!

Of course, technology, especially AI, is on everyone’s lips, plus we had Google achieve an amazing milestone this week, and we’ve seen wider technological progress you may not even be aware of – yes, the excitement of generating AI notes from our meetings is a small cog in a much bigger story. On the cultural front, it was a year of Taylor Swift and P Diddy, although we’re sure the latter wished he was in the formers seat right now – his court case will certainly get the world’s attention in 2025.

To help us wrap up the year, our first guest is Taryn-lee Kearney, from Johannesburg, South Africa. Tarryn is a CEO, industrial psychologist, global speaker, multifaceted facilitator, consultant and mental health advocate. She’s also the Boomchakalaka lady. Our second guest from Singapore is Natalie Nancy Tan, a dance fitness instructor, personal trainer, M.E.L.D Program Creator, resilience speaker, and transformation coach. Natalie has a mission - Empowering Women to Move from Victim to Victor with the 3R Framework: Realization, Resilience, Rejoice. We are convinced both ladies will bring super positive energy to the discussion.

The Livestream kicks off at 3pm Singapore time, Friday 13th December. Come and join us for our last show of the year.

  • Climate Courage: the economics of climate
    Dec 6 2024

Cop29 has been deemed a failure as it only promised $300 billion to developing countries by the mid-30s. What’s even more challenging about this number is the percentage offered as loans, because countries already struggling with debt burdens taking on more debt to deal with a crisis not of their own making is amoral, not to forget, it’s not charity. Ensuring the developing world gets the funds required to transition to clean energy is a critical need for the world. Another vital pillar is financing for adaptation, because if we don’t, we will be overrun by record human migration – something that will cause even more challenges for our societies.

Beyond the needs of the developing world, we’re going to get personal. Are we aware of how the planetary crisis will impact our own pockets – regardless of how much wealth we have today? Are we preparing for it? As the planetary crisis escalates, with extreme weather events costing $2 trillion globally just in the last decade, how will that roll out and impact us individually? Insurance costs, pensions, investments, and beyond? What impact will all these extreme weather events have on our food, our homes, transportation, as well as air, water and on we could go? Are we ready to face this truth? Do we want to know what we should be doing right now to get prepared? Yes? Then join us for our last Livestream of the year.

To help us dig into this topic, we are delighted activist Robert Redmayne Hosking has agreed to come back and join us for a second week, because honestly, he has so much more to say. Robert is a lifelong nature and environmental enthusiast, and a conservationist at heart. Environmental and climate policies are his passion, and he is relentless on X, showing up with daily protests, as he works to shape the future of how leaders, governments and the media think. Robert speaks from the heart and tells it like it is, so get ready for an engaging and passionate conversation.

The economics of climate is a critical topic, so please do join us live Friday, 6th December – 3pm Singapore time, and 7am UK time, or listen to the recording after. Livestreaming to multiple locations.

  • The Know Show – from ‘enshittification’ to denial, somethings gotta give
    Dec 3 2024

What’s true? What’s not? How do we move forward when ‘truthiness’ is acceptable? How do we navigate complex times when basic facts are denied rigorously, something that is definitely not serving the common good? We have entered the era of denial and “enshittification,” a term invented by the sci-fi writer Cory Doctorow, to describe online platforms and the process of their decay.

According to Rose Payne, she says you’ll recognize it immediately from pretty much any online service you’ve signed up to: “You enter into it, and at the beginning, it’s good, but once they have network effects, they degrade the quality of their offering. So, you’re trapped in a space that’s no longer useful to you.”

Based on the rapid departure or lack of participation from so many centrists in the social media discourse, and the dominance of extreme far right and extreme far left voices on all social media platforms, we are in a bit of a spot, don’t you think? We have critical issues on the horizon, which threaten to impact all of humanity, but when we have no consensus on what is the truth, along with the denial of expert opinion running rampart, where do we go from here?

It's just the three of us this week, as our guest was unable to make it, but it will be as fiery as ever, as we dig into a very complicated topic, as well as sharing the news happening around the world.

The Livestream kicks off at 3pm Singapore time, Friday 29th November. Come and join us.

  • Climate Courage: the politics of climate
    Nov 22 2024

This year, 1.5 billion people have gone to or are going to the polls, with more than 50 countries holding significant elections in 2024. Considering 2023 was the hottest year on record, and 2024 looks like it will smash that record, not to mention extreme weather events escalating across the globe, we’re going to vote for leaders who are climate aware at least, yes?

Well no. Not only do we have a climate denier back in the White House, but Green Parties across the world have had terrible results in many of these elections, while right-wing political factions are working together, collaborating in private meetings. Then we have Argentina pulling its delegates out of Cop29 after three days, but at least they were there, because many important leaders didn’t even show up. So, what the hell is going on?

We are absolutely thrilled to have activist Robert Redmayne Hosking joining us this week. Robert is a lifelong nature and environmental enthusiast, and a conservationist at heart.
Environmental and climate policies are his passion, and he is relentless on X, showing up with daily protests, as he works to shape the future of how leaders, governments and the media think. • The Know Show – where do we go from here?
    Nov 15 2024

Since our last show, the US election happened and Cop29 kicked off, with a whole lot of other news in between. In the US, the recriminations and post-election analysis consumes our feeds, while Cop29 starts with the US threatening to leave the Paris Climate Agreement (again), Argentina ordering its representatives to leave after three days, all while reports state fossil fuel emissions have hit new highs, devastating storms continue across the world, and the cost of food continues to rise as extreme weather events destroy essential crops everywhere. To add to that, global media have been called out for reporting stories that are completely different to what people are seeing with their own eyes. How can we trust the media?

So where do we go from here? What will be the global fall-out from the US election? Which country will move to the far right next? Germany is on the line here! But trust is another massive crisis we’ve faced for decades, and the media seems intent on making it worse – so where do we go for the truth? Or has our information system become so corrupted it’s not even possible anymore? And while all this chaos escalates across our societies, scientists are continually issuing red alerts on the planetary risks – a growing food crisis, destruction from extreme weather events, ecosystems collapsing, ocean heat and its impacts, the earth’s energy imbalance and on it goes. Does it feel like we’re heading in the right direction?

To join us this week, we are delighted to welcome Dr. Damini Chawla, an award-winning professional speaker with a unique multi-cultural background and personal story fuelled by courage. Dr Damini has spent 13 years wielding drills and curing cavities, but dentistry was just the foundation for a deeper calling - human connection and behaviour. A provocateur, author, facilitator and emcee, we are looking forward to hearing her thoughts on where do we go from here?
