Do you have a book that you’ve started and never finished? Write something during National Novel Writing Month? Work on a fanfiction story from your favorite TV show?
Did you complete your rough draft and hide it away?
It’s time to let the sun shine on those projects again!
Welcome to Writing Again Podcast, where we let the sun shine on our old works in progress, discover lost gems, and find the creator inside us as we re-engage with the passion we once had. It’s time to get passionate again.
My name is Kim Krajci. I’m a writer. I’ve been writing professionally for seven years. But when I was challenged at the beginning of the year to write down my goals for the year, the first thing I wrote down was “publish a book on Kindle.”
But which one? And how?
Maybe you face those questions too. Many of us do. We’ve spent hours at a keyboard or with a notebook, putting down our words… only to let them remain on our hard drives and never take them out again.
Look, Emily Dickinson wrote thousands of poems that were never printed in her lifetime. At least, that’s the story I always heard. I think it’s sad that she never shared this creative part of her life while she was alive.
Let’s let our creative self out again. Maybe that novel that you put away isn’t worth finishing. But at one point in your life, you were compelled to write that story. You wanted to write then. Let’s get back in touch with that desire, even if what we wrote wasn’t very good. We have time to learn to do better. What we need may be the motivation to begin writing again.
It’s time to take it out and examine it. Find that passion again and whether or not that work is good, salvageable, or simply an exercise that you learned from, let’s get started again together.
Writing Prompts
I’ve joined a new community called AutoCrit. The link is in the show notes. The challenge this month is to write a short story, three to five thousand words long. There’s a prize! I like prizes. Who doesn’t like prizes?
Next time, I’m taking a look at Kindle Vella – a platform for serialized stories. Do I have a work in progress – a WIP - that might suit that platform? Maybe. Maybe you do too!
If you want to discover the creator inside you again, you can subscribe to this podcast on the platform of your choice. Links to many are on the website WritingAgain.life.
