Ten years after a tragic incident on the lake, an AA meeting in a small, religious town in the deep south of the USA descends into bitterness and chaos when a flood hits. Trapped within the local church, tempers escalate and well-buried secrets begin to emerge. Personalities clash, reputations are dissected and questioned, and everybody's demons are laid bare.

At a Berlin soirée in 1928, a photographer captures three very different women together in one frame: up-and-coming German actress Marlene Dietrich, who would wend her way into Hollywood as one of its lasting icons; Anna May Wong, the world's first Chinese American star, playing for bit parts while dreaming of breaking away from her father's modest laundry; and Leni Riefenstahl, whose work as a director of propaganda art films would first make her infamous. From this curious point of intersection, Delayed Rays of a Star lets loose the trajectories of these women's lives.

Summer, 1991: Working at a beachfront hotel in their sleepy southern coastal town gives life-long friends Violet, Danielle, Whitney, Ford and Sully the chance to spend as much time as possible together after college graduation and before real life begins. One exceptionally busy and very long night—which includes a wedding, a lost dog, hatching sea turtles and a job offer—has each of them facing hopes and fears for the future. Wrestling with choices means loyalties are tested while alliances shift.

No one ever said I was the brightest bulb on the tree, but a near-death experience finally knocks some sense into my thick head. Luckily, my jerk of an ex washes his hands of me, but I'm left with so many burnt bridges to rebuild. Landing a job on any movie or TV show that'll have me has to be my #1 priority.
