The architect of The Wizard of Oz delves into the mythological beginnings of the jolly old elf himself. Baum created a mythological world in which the magical forest of Burzee, created at the beginning of time, is the main source of all otherworldly magical power. Ak, the Master Woodsman ruled the forests; Kern, the Master Husbandman of the World, ruled the food crops; Bo, the Master Mariner of the World, ruled the seas. All other immortals are subject to these three.

When sea-raiders invade the peaceful island of Pingaree to carry off and enslave its inhabitants, only young Prince Inga, jolly King Rinkitink, and his grumpy goat Bilbil escape. Aided by three magic pearls, this unlikely trio of heroes sets out to rescue Inga's people from captivity. Originally written in 1905 as a non-Oz adventure, it was eventually published in 1916 as Rinkitink in Oz, with an Oz ending tacked on for sales purposes. Thanks to a contest sponsored by the International Wizard of Oz Club, Rinkitink now has a new ending written by Andrew J. Heller that is true to Baum's original concept.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is an American children's novel written by author L. Frank Baum and illustrated by W. W. Denslow, originally published by the George M. Hill Company in Chicago on May 17, 1900. It has since been reprinted on numerous occasions, most often under the title The Wizard of Oz, which is the title of the popular 1902 Broadway musical adaptation as well as the iconic 1939 musical film adaptation. The story chronicles the adventures of a young farm girl named Dorothy in the magical land of Oz.

Times are tough in Kansas, forcing Dorothy, Aunt Em, and Uncle Henry to move to Oz. But while Dorothy gives her aunt and uncle the grand tour, the Nome King makes plans to retrieve his magic belt from Ozma.

A baby is found by wood nymphs in the forest of Burzee. They raise him as their own and give him the name Neclaus. When he grows up, Neclaus has to leave the forest so he makes a home for himself in the laughing valley of Hohaha, where he lives amongst humans for the first time. Eventually he makes presents for all the children and so the story of Santa Claus is born.

"A Kidnapped Santa Claus" is a short story by L. Frank Baum, author of the Oz stories.
