The Retreat Series

In Boston, a battalion of light infantry struggles to maintain order as a new disease turns people into sadistic, laughing killers. As the numbers of infected grow, the battalion loses control, and the soldiers find themselves fighting for their lives against the very people they once swore an oath to protect. During the ensuing collapse, the lost battalion learns the Army is still holding out in Florida, which has been cleared of the infected. Harry Lee, its commander, decides the only hope for his men is to get there.

Emerging from the smoking ruins of Boston, Lieutenant Colonel Harry Lee leads the First Battalion, 55th Infantry Regiment on a perilous trek to its besieged home post of Fort Drum. Along the way, the unit must battle through the legions of diseased killers lying in wait, evading clever ambushes and fighting through terrifying attacks. Lee struggles to hold the battalion together while epitomizing its motto, "Bounding Forward".

The City of Brotherly Love is currently under the protection of General Anthony Bell, commander of the famed 56th Stryker Brigade, the Independence Brigade. But in a world gone mad, nothing is as it seems. And when Bell has Lee arrested and put up on charges, it’s up to Lee’s right-hand man, Major Chris Walker, to pick up the pieces. Can he snatch Lee from the hangman’s noose, and can he guide his troops and his civilian charges through the gathering horde of maniacal killers? Or will they all die laughing?

During the long retreat out of Philadelphia, First Battalion arrives at High Point Special Facility, the Alamo of the US government. Lt. Colonel Lee secures the fort built around the facility but learns of an outbreak in the underground bunker, where the US government is hiding. The president has been infected. While thousands of laughing infected lay siege to the facility, Sergeant Muldoon, Corporal Rawlings, and a platoon of lightfighters go deep into the bowels of the earth on a deadly mission: terminate the president of the United States. The president is waiting.

Traveling from Boston to ill-fated Fort Drum, then on to Philadelphia, and again to Mount Weather and Fort Stewart, the First Battalion, 55th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division (Light) is run out, blown out, and virtually waiting for death's embrace. Now at the border of Georgia and Florida, the battalion receives new orders.
