Mixtus-Americans: A Different Brand of Christianity Where We Still Practice Griot continues the challenges of healing, institutionally and nationally, from the result of faith divided by racism and perceived superiority. These views were first expressed in my book called Mixtus-Americans: Salvation from Oppressive Sin.

A living lost soul in this book can be a life from the old life to a born-again new life in Jesus. This book is my life of darkness without Jesus, but when Jesus touched me, I was free to worship and praise him for giving his life for me. I was that person walking in the darkness, and now have seen this great light (Isaiah 9:2). This light has shone; do you want this? It's a great gift from a Holy King who loves like nobody can touch his love. Love is his character; look what he did for me; he will do it for you too.

Feminism and atheism are “dirty words” that Americans across the political spectrum love to debate - and hate. Throw them into a blender and you have a toxic brew that supposedly defies decency, respectability, and Americana. Putting gender at the center of the equation, progressive “Religious Nones” of color are spearheading an anti-racist, social justice humanism that disrupts the “colorblind” ethos of European American atheist and humanist agendas, which focus principally on church-state separation. 

Benjamin Tucker Tanner (1835-1923) was an editor, historian, and prominent theologian of his time who founded The Christian Recorder, an early African American newspaper. In his 1895 book The Color of Solomon, he contends that King Solomon of the Bible did not belong to the white race.  

Men love the game of football because it mimics the eternal war perpetually existing between good and evil. This recondite battle is analogous to football because like human beings themselves, football is half a physical game and half a spiritual undertaking. The abolitionist, essayist, teacher, and women’s rights activist Maria W. Stewart is thought to have been the first African American woman to raise matters of equality and justice in a US public forum, the New England Anti-Slavery Society in Boston. In her 1832 lecture, Why Sit Ye Here and Die?, she demanded equal rights for African American women while criticizing both the slavery of the South and the lack of opportunity and equality in the North. Her biblical style of oratory and fierce opposition to injustice still inspire today.

Great journeys often start with a single question. For D. K. Evans, a newly married professional in the Christian-dominated South, that question was, “Why Do I Believe in God?” That simple query led him on a years-long search to better understand the nature of religion and faith, particularly as it applies to the Black community.
