Ancient Poetry

Educated in Lebanon, United States, and France, Gibran was influenced by the European modernists of the late 19th century, but even more by Francis Marrash, who introduced poetic prose and prose poetry in the Arab world. Gibran's style of writing and ideas he wrote about are believed to have been greatly influenced by Marrash, particularly the concept of universal love.

Fu proprio l'imperatore Augusto, il committente dell'opera, a salvarla dalle fiamme, come Virgilio aveva disposto nel suo testamento. L'édition définitive des "Fleurs du Mal" a été publiée en 1868, après la mort de Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867). Les premiers recueils furent mal accueillis par la critique. Seuls quelques-uns, dont son ami Barbey d'Aurevilly, défendent la poésie de Charles Baudelaire. Le 5 juillet 1857 parait un violent article du Figaro, qui tout à la fois assure une grande notoriété au poète et le conduit devant les tribunaux. En août 1857, Baudelaire est condamné pour "offense à la morale publique, la morale religieuse et aux bonnes mœurs".

Purgatory is the second part of Dante's The Divine Comedy. The listener finds the Poet, with his guide Virgil, ascending the terraces of the Mount of Purgatory inhabited by those doing penance to expiate their sins on earth. Virgil's Georgics ranks as one of the most precious pastoral poems ever written, and it has served as a model for its type ever since. Georgics means "of or relating to agriculture or rural life" and it comes from the Greek word, "georgicus". Virgil's main theme in this, his second great work after The Eclogues, was the importance of peace both in the spiritual and physical sense.
