La sua indagine assume però contorni inediti, ed estremamente attuali, quando viene a sapere che le prove di una cospirazione ai danni di Roma si celerebbero nel leggendario sepolcro di Antinoo, il favorito di Adriano annegato nel Nilo giovanissimo in circostanze mai chiarite (incidente? Omicidio? Rito sacrificale?).
