Visitors are arriving in droves to spend Thanksgiving in the mountains of pet-friendly Wagtail, Virginia. When a bulldozer churns up some roots, the tree falls over, revealing a body inside....

Spot doesn't believe in coincidences, not at all. So when Ishii's has to shut down for six weeks to remodel after a fire, and a new Italian restaurant opens in the plaza, he smells something rotten, and it's not out-of-date sushi. The fire inspector claims it was an accident due to an employee's careless cigarette, and with both Ishii and Master Callan accepting that, Spot can't get anyone to look deeper. There's nothing for it. He will have to learn how to look for clues like a pro and sniff out the real culprit for himself.

The TV series in development, Apparition Apprehenders, has descended on Wagtail's annual Halloween festivities to investigate supernatural local legends, and Holly has her hands full showing the ghost hunters a scary-fun time. But the frights turn real when Holly's Jack Russell, Trixie, and kitten, Twinkletoes, find a young woman drowned in the Wagtail Springs Hotel's bathhouse.

Death stalks the Blue Ridge Mountains once again, and Mary Minor Harry Harristeen, along with her beloved cats, is on the case.

It's the Christmas season and veterinarian Kate Turner is not feeling very jolly. She's overworked, unappreciated, and dealing with two dissatisfied clients. Throw in a very complicated personal life and Kate's definitely got a case of the holiday blues. To make matters worse, Kate's ex-boyfriend, Jeremy, is mugged and robbed after they have a heated argument in the hospital parking lot. Then, two of her dissatisfied clients turn up dead (which really gets Kate's tinsel in a tangle). All of these events seem like coincidences, but they add up to something much more venomous.
