Not much says crazy quite like a good, old-fashioned apocalypse. And for the world over, it has been one wacky, wild ride. From zombies to werewolves, vampires to superpowers, everything was practically guaranteed to never be the same. But for a small town in Iowa, things took a slightly different turn, one that placed the people of Orangerton in a precarious and nefarious peril most fowl.

When the zombie apocalypse hits the quiet Asheville, NC, subdivision of Whispering Pines, the residents don't turn to the police or the military. Nope. They rely on their iron-fisted Home Owners Association! Which Jace Stanford and his family aren’t too keen on. Undead hordes are hard enough to deal with in a post-apocalyptic hellscape, who needs HOA fines too?

Boxford High pranksters cause a chemistry lab to go wrong and students are forced to face something far worse than S.A.T.’s and cafeteria lunches - an infection that turns students into zombies scouring the halls for survivors. A group of unlikely companions; an artistic goth, star-athlete jock, disgruntled loner, would-be marine, sassy cheerleader, and angry Asian, must fend off the living dead. As they fight through locker rooms and dance their way across the theater, they will find surviving zombies is more complicated than puberty.

No name. No Clue. And a time old prophecy in a dysfunctional world ravaged by apathy. It’s all downhill from there when at the end of a noose. After a run in with a lunatic vagrant the two gallivant across the Lowland barrens when sparked by a sleazy advert for “Billy the Skids Truck Stop Depot”. Together they realize there might be more to life than first believed. More like muck mouth mutants, cannibalistic carnies, hallucinogenic mushrooms, and a 400-pound dictator with BO that would stop a truck. Everything is absurd.

The American Midwest was a bucolic landscape that didn’t quite adjust to the zombie apocalypse. Instead of open arms and welcoming faces, there are now open mouths and ravenous Zs. The blue collar drive to work hard has become a red-mouthed hunger for flesh. Jace Stanford, his family, and the rag tag bunch of Whispering Pines survivors, private military contractors, laborers, and former (hopefully?) cannibals now must face the vast, exposed space of America’s Heartland in order to get to a possible sanctuary in the post-apocalyptic ruins of Boulder, Colorado.

Forced out of Asheville, Jace Stanford’s family, along with a convoy of suburbanites, misfits, criminals, and soldiers, must battle their way through the I-40 corridor of Eastern Tennessee. When they are separated from their friends and allies in Knoxville, the Stanfords have to rely on their skills as post-apocalyptic survivors to fight off the Zs, insane Vols fans, homicidal sorority girls, and the most deadly of the post-apocalyptic threats - cannibal gangs!

In Guntersville, Mike Brown and his wife, Lauren, continue to twist the very souls of the deluded congregation that would follow him to hell and back. Their dark secret is becoming an unholy gospel, bent on destroying everything good. Simultaneously, the Island's embattled government fights back against the unprovoked attacks by this messianic cult leader's crazed followers.

In the year 2030, a dying scientist released a volatile pathogen into the atmosphere. It granted the elderly a plethora of augmented abilities, near-immortality, and an insatiable bloodlust for the generations that have wronged them.

Jack Winters is in the Lifestream while his friends struggle to keep the world from succumbing to evil. Barry and Mara scour heaven for a spy. Zandra and T’Challa stand on the frontlines against the enemy. And Mike is also involved somehow.

Keegan is a late-night public access radio show host, sexual deviant, and militant vegan. He has grown tired of his vegan cause being treated with apathy by the portly, meat-gorging, residents of the small town of Breen Gay, Wisconsin.

Just over a year after Jack Winters and his friends, Mike and Barry, defeated evil, things are starting to look up. Mike is in charge of the guardian angels. Barry is living happily as an actor for the citizens of heaven. The world is even starting to set itself right again in the aftermath of the apocalypse. Jack, however, went in search of Lola and hasn’t been seen since. When Mike gets word that someone has been sent to find and kill Jack, he and Barry will set off in opposite directions around the world to find their friend before his killer can.

Roby Valen's memories are covered in blood, as is her past. Imprisoned for a gruesome murder of a record executive, she finds herself rotting away, with only the memory of the eccentric rock star, Ray Harrison to keep her sane. When the lights go out and hell breaks loose, she sets out to reunite with the only person who can find her smile.

Mo Collins survived the beginning of the zombie apocalypse by doing nothing but staying on the replica pirate ship the Viva Ancora. But after what he thought was a chance meeting of another survivor, Smokes, everything changed. Mo has become the hero in a story seemingly channeled by Smokes. Following what sounds like a prewritten script, Mo and Smokes gathered a motley crew of typical zombie apocalypse survivors.

For Mo Collins, surviving the zombie apocalypse isn’t getting any easier. Defeating blunatics, saving survivors, recovering treasure, and securing Guntersville Island has been taking up Mo’s time when he would rather just make time with his girl. But he can’t avoid his scripted destiny; his personal Oracle, Smokes, won’t let him. He can still bitch about it, though.

The crew of the replica pirate ship, the Viva Ancora, is growing, and the characters of this cast are fulfilling their roles toward destiny. As the group swells, the need to clear the town of the infected and secure Guntersville Island becomes paramount. Isolation from the world will protect them from the naked, blue, undead cannibals - or will it?

I’m not sure what to do here. If you listened and enjoyed the first one, I don’t feel like I need to sell you very hard on this one. The characters you love from Hellbender—Doug, Bryce, Lulu, and Charlene—get into further misadventures, while I also expand on the lore from the first one. Are the people in charge really demons? What happened in the Last War? Well, there are more answers and more questions in the sequel—you know how it works.

There was always one point, one moment in all of reality where everything that was will fight for everything that might be. It’s this point. Well, several points, but all happening at the same time, but not the same time. It’s super complicated. Some question whether it really happened at all, or will happen.

Jacob Elliot doesn’t want a temporary job in the mailroom at Delphi Enterprises, but after two post-college years of unpaid internships and living in his parents’ basement, he needs the work.
