Winter is in full force. Freezing temperatures and heavy snow present new threats. But there's more to surviving than just weathering the elements.

After an EMP obliterates the nation's electrical grid on New Year's Eve, it's not long before society unravels and panic ensues. As the lights go out and silence spreads over the city that never sleeps, four ordinary strangers - a bike messenger, a homeless person, a support rep, and an ex-convict - must forge a connection in order to stay alive. When they realize the danger is far greater than they expected, they must embark on a perilous journey out of the city.

This is the story of survival when the worst possible scenario occurs. Three apocalyptic events occur at the same time. North Korea and Iran take advantage of a devastating cosmic event to mask their EMP and cyber-attack on the USA and its allies. Our hero, Tom Horn, fled to Arizona years ago to keep drug cartel hitmen from killing him after they killed his family.

Things go from bad to worse for Ben and his crew as they struggle to push on toward Colorado. Unfortunately, due to Emma’s deteriorating health, they’re forced to alter their plans. But a delay might not be their biggest problem. Battling the elements and their own physical limits proves to be almost as treacherous as the roving gangs of highway bandits that lurk in the shadows, looking to prey upon the weak or unprepared. It’s more important than ever to remain vigilant.

A small southern town was evacuated after a freak power-plant accident. As the first anniversary of the mishap approaches, some residents are allowed to return past the national guard roadblocks. Mount Hope natives Maggie and Jordan quickly discover that their hometown is not as it was before. Downed cellular networks fail to resume service. Animals savagely attack humans. And the damaged power plant, where Jordan's father is an engineer, is under military lockdown.

One second was all it took to erase Frank's dreams. New home. New car. New retirement. Stolen by the EMP. It gets worse. Frank's neighbors failed to prepare at all, so it falls on him to keep them alive. He starts easy: stockpile food, water, and guns. Disaster lessons he'd picked up reading books about the end of the world.

What would you risk to save your family? Charlie Decker traveled to Seattle to acquire a much-needed loan for his family’s Orchard. After a dozen requests, Charlie is forced to head home emptyhanded. But his plans are derailed after an unexpected attack on the city renders all electronics useless. No cars. No phones. Everything about the modern world has been destroyed. And that’s when the chaos begins.

What started as a flu outbreak on a military base proves deadlier than Ebola. Sympatico Syndrome is unlike anything the world has ever seen. Victims' behavior is changing to accommodate the rapid spread of the virus. Former Navy epidemiologist Cole Evans is well aware of the rare, infectious diseases the military studies. He also knows the government's stance on sharing information with the public, so if the media has already learned about the disease, then it's too late to contain the outbreak.

The EMP was just the beginning. Destruction and chaos have devastated the nation. The unknown enemy who detonated the EMP continues to wreak havoc in communities across the country. Ben Riker, a prepper surviving with his friends and family in the North Carolina mountains, is closer to unmasking the enemy and understanding their plans. But Ben will discover the enemy is more tenacious than he anticipated as they seek retribution against Ben and his family.

Are there any decent people left? Having reached his kids in Maryland, Ben is faced with the challenge of crossing the country once more and getting everyone safely home to Colorado. The struggle to survive is the only constant in their otherwise unpredictable lives. With each passing day, Ben becomes increasingly cynical about the state of mankind and worries that the children will grow up to feel the same. Remaining vigilant is no guarantee that they will avoid problems on the journey back.

Was the mom-and-pop station a trap? All around, people fought to survive. Russell, Cathy, and their faithful German shepherd Max just wanted to stay out of trouble. But trouble has a way of finding the desperate. They needed gas. It was their only option. When Cathy got shot, things looked bleak. Russell would need to find a place to treat her wound, away from the thugs that hunted them.

When the black rain began to fall, it was a worldwide phenomenon that mystified everyone. There was little time to ponder the cause. Most animals died at the onset. While some humans were unaffected, others experienced a half-death of sorts, morphing into blood and flesh-crazed creatures with a desire to hunt the living. Climbing Fox Wattana of the Henomawi Nation claims responsibility for the black rain; he says it will will ensure the ultimate extinction of the United States government as revenge for robbing his people of their land. Cole "CB" Baxter isn't taking this lying down.

Making matters worse, the open road quickly proves more hostile than they remember.
