Arthurian Magic

Sinead is on holiday from Ireland, visiting a castle in England. There, the famous sword Excalibur is on display, and tourists flock to have their picture taken trying to pull it out of the stone. Astonishingly, when it comes to Sinead's turn, the sword comes free. Soon the crowds are shouting, "All hail Queen Sinead!"

Sir Gadabout is a walking disaster. Voted the 'knight most likely to chop his own foot off in a fight', he shivers in his rusty armour when he has to face the brave Sir Lancelot in a joust.

Wirt is used to being shuffled from foster home to foster home, adopting a devil-may-care attitude toward the world along the way. Now he's in a school he can't escape, learning to develop his latent magical abilities - for what use, he doesn’t know...to save his world or to destroy it.

The Sword in the Stone is the first novel in The Once and Future King, T. H. White's epic fantasy re-telling of the Arthurian legend. A cartoon adaptation by Walt Disney made it into an enduring favourite for the young.

The tale is set during King Arthur's reign. The witty Jack encounters terrible giants, each one more threatening and dangerous than the others. They devour cattle, emprison women, and maintain the country in a state of fear and confusion; but, armed only with his brain and a few magical objects he gathered, Jack will gain the advantage and slay the monsters.
