Luckily, the log cabin where they’re staying is cozy - only there are strange noises in the night and a mysterious code carved into the closet door. The rescue is a long wait for the Boxcar Children, but the cabin is full of secrets.

When the Boxcar Children help out in a local garden, they dig up one strange thing after another! First, the tomato plants seem to move every day. How can that be? Then the Aldens follow the clues to an unsolved bank robbery, and it's clear that a very big mystery is growing in Greenfield.

While on the beach at a seaside resort, Benny finds a bottle with a tattered piece of paper inside. When the Aldens find out that it’s part of a map that leads to a pirate’s riches, they prepare to search for the buried gold. But the Aldens aren’t the only ones looking for the hidden fortune. The Aldens visit Goldwin University, where Grandfather attended college. The old library is about to be torn down. But legend says the stone gargoyles guarding the roof of the old building will do anything to protect it - even fly. When the creatures begin appearing outside the windows, people are terrified. But the Boxcar Children think there is another reason the gargoyles are turning up in places they shouldn't. And they're determined to figure it out.

The Greenfield Museum is holding a special exhibit all about ancient Egypt, and the main attraction is a 4,000-year-old mummy! But ever since the mummy arrived, nothing's gone right for the museum or its workers. Could the spooky sarcophagus be behind all the bad luck?

When their friend Sam gets a letter full of riddles from an eccentric millionaire, the Aldens are eager to help him crack the code. If Sam can solve the puzzle, he will inherit the millionaire's money! But Sam isn't the only one in town to receive a letter - and whoever solves the mystery first will win the prize!
