The villagers are quite a handful, from the rogue that is Claude Jeremiah Greengrass and his wily dog, Alfred, to the mysterious spinster Adelaide Bowes. Even some of the newcomers seem to be a little odd. But thankfully for Constable Nick, they are mostly law-abiding characters. But when old conflicts between villages flare up, it’s Constable Nick who has to sort things out.

David Salomon, a young violinist and composer, has left New York to find fame and fortune in Regency London. But disaster strikes not long after he arrives. A mysterious rival composer is stealing his compositions and having them performed to great acclaim—and when David tries to protest that he is the music’s true creator, he becomes the laughingstock of the beau monde he had hoped to conquer. With few friends and even fewer resources, the desperate Mr. Salomon turns to Ezra Melamed for help with discovering the identity of his shadowy foe.

When Kate and Nathan receive a photo of four kidnapped models, the clock starts ticking for the detectives to save their lives before it’s too late. Kate has been on the Murder Team for a few months now, working run-of-the-mill cases with Nathan. But the memory of that first case, and it's disturbing details, still bothers her. Meanwhile, four models arrive at a shoot in a local abandoned mental asylum and are violently kidnapped. The next day, a photo of them lands on the desk of Kate and Nathan, with a chilling note.
