Häherfeder ist von seiner Reise aus den Bergen zurückgekehrt und setzt nun alles daran, die vierte Katze der Prophezeiung zu finden. Die Zeit drängt, denn es haben sich immer mehr Clan-Katzen dem finsteren Krieger Tigerstern angeschlossen. Efeusees Tarnung als treue Anhängerin droht aufzufliegen. Als ein mysteriöser Einzelläufer im Wald auftaucht und Zwietracht zwischen den Clans sät, müssen die Katzen entscheiden, zu wem sie halten.

Und noch immer ist der Clan ohne Zweiten Anführer. Der junge Krieger Brombeerkralle ist wütend: Feuerstern muss endlich einen Stellvertreter ernennen - und er wäre genau der Richtige! In seinen Träumen wird Brombeerkralle von seinem Vater Tigerstern und seinem Halbbruder Habichtfrost heimgesucht, die seine Gedanken vergiften.
