Child Loss Grief

Sometimes we can’t find help when we’re aching the most. Sometimes the world’s best intentions can leave us feeling alone in our pain; and when that pain comes from the grief of a profound loss, it can be confusing and isolating. Author Watson Jordan dedicates this book to “all the men who needed and wanted to grieve and heal, who looked for help and found none they could recognize....” In sharing his story of loss and eventual healing, he hopes to encourage other men, especially, as they grieve.

In late 2016, prompted by the news that his wife was battling cancer and his own pulmonary medical scare, Erick Erickson posted a piece to his website, The Resurgent. Styled as a letter to his young children, the piece, titled "If I Should Die Before You Wake", was a stirring message - and challenge - about how to live a life of purpose and joy. Now, in a time when our country needs healing and a reminder of our values more than ever, Erickson has expanded the project, composing a total of 10 letters, featuring a wonderful mix of the practical, inspirational, and spiritual.

In October of 2005, Stephanie Sullivan tragically lost her only child, her daughter, Makaylee. She almost lost her life, as well, due to complications of a rare condition called bicornuate uterus, which means "heart shaped womb". This became the title of her book. After this loss and other personal tragedies, she felt led to share her story in hopes of helping others. In sharing her story, she hopes to bring awareness to the emotional and physical aspects of losing a child.
