Here is the story of The Houston Five that shocked the nation in the fall of 2014. Attorneys for Annise Parker, at that time the openly gay mayor of the City of Houston, launched a campaign in an attempt to intimidate and silence Houston pastors from addressing LGBT issues from their pulpits. In the Bible, the Book of Revelation is often considered a book about events that will take place in our future. The Beast will come, the number 666 will happen, etc. What is often overlooked, however, is that Jesus gave the contents of Revelation to John in about 95 AD. So everything written in the book was future to that time period, future to 95 AD.

Ida B. Wells was a powerful churchwoman and witness for justice and equity from 1878 to 1931. Born enslaved, her witness flowed through the struggles for justice in her lifetime, especially in the intersections of African Americans, women, and those who were poor. Her life is a profound witness for faith-based work of visionary power, resistance, and resilience for today’s world, when the forces of injustice stand in opposition to progress.
