Sarah has been receiving threatening anonymous letters seemingly from a former lover. Just one day after revealing this information to her co-worker Nancy, Sarah is shot and found in her bedroom by one of her past flames, Donald. Desperate to clear any evidence of Donald's presence at the scene for her own infatuations, Nancy finds herself as the key suspect when she is discovered in the apartment. As the real killer uses the situation to their advantage, Bennett crafts a tense and nuanced story through flashbacks to Sarah's life and loves.

Wealthy widow Mrs. Harlowe has died at her house in Dijon, apparently of natural causes. But then her brother-in-law accuses her niece Betty of poisoning the old woman; Jim Frobisher, junior partner in the office of Betty’s English solicitors, is dispatched to France to provide legal advice and support. In France, as Jim seeks to discover the truth and clear Betty, he enters into an uneasy alliance with the enigmatic and mercurial Sûreté detective, Inspector Hanaud.

The great detective, Sherlock Holmes, is dying from a highly contagious tropical disease called Tapanuli fever. Dr. Watson is shocked when he hears about his friend’s illness. He travels to examine him, but Holmes refuses his help. Instead, a man called Culverton Smith arrives after being called by Watson. He is not a professional doctor but knows more about the disease than anyone else.

"Ein Fall geschickter Täuschung" (A Case of Identity) erschien erstmals im September 1891 im Strand Magazine und wurde im Jahr darauf mit 11 anderen Fällen in Die Abenteuer des Sherlock Holmes veröffentlicht. Die junge verzweifelte Mary Sutherland wendet sich an Sherlock Holmes. Am Tag ihrer Heirat verschwand ihr Verlobter Hosmer Angel spurlos, nachdem er ihr kurz zuvor das Versprechen abgenommen hatte, sie würde ihm treu sein, was auch immer geschehe.

"Die verschwundene Braut" (The Noble Bachelor) erschien erstmals im April 1892 im Strand Magazine. Noch im selben Jahr wurde der Fall in Die Abenteuer des Sherlock Holmes veröffentlicht. Handlungszeitpunkt: Oktober 1886: Lord Robert St Simon, der zweite Sohn des Herzogs von Balmoral, sagt sich brieflich für den Nachmittag bei Holmes und Watson an. Aus den Zeitungen rekapitulieren sie, dass sich der 41jährige am Vortag mit Hatty Doran, der einzigen Tochter eines US-Millionärs aus San Francisco, verheiraten wollte.

In Dr. Watsons Praxis erscheint sehr früh am Morgen der knapp 25jährige Hydraulik-Ingenieur Victor Hatherley, der in der Nacht einen Daumen verloren hat. Da er von einem Mordanschlag spricht, schaltet Watson umgehend Holmes ein. Ihm berichtet Hatherley, dass ihn gestern in seinem miserabel laufenden Laden ein ungewöhnlich dünner Mann mit deutschem Akzent aufgesucht hat, der sich als Oberst Lysander Stark ausgab.

"Skandalgeschichte im Fürstentum O... "(Originaltitel: "A Scandal in Bohemia") ist eine Erzählung des britischen Schriftstellers Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, die erstmals im Juli 1891 im Strand Magazine erschien. Es handelt sich hierbei um die erste Erzählung, die Doyle mit den Figuren Sherlock Holmes und Dr. Watson schrieb. 1887 und 1890 hatten die beiden Romane "Eine Studie in Scharlachrot" und "Das Zeichen der Vier" das Fundament für den Hauptkanon der Sherlock-Holmes-Erzählungen gelegt.

Fortress-walled Saint Catherine's monastery on the Sinai Peninsula (Egypt) has been a pilgrimage site since its founding by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian in the 6th century. According to tradition, the monastery sits at the base of the mountain where Moses received the Tablets of the Law. Set in rugged country, it was for a very long time only accessible through a long camel-back journey across the barren desert.

"Parnassus on Wheels" (1917) was Christopher Morley’s first published novel. It tells the story of Roger Mifflin, who sells his travelling book business to 39-year-old Helen McGill. The latter is tired of taking care of her ailing older brother Andrew, a businessman, farmer, and author. The novel is told from the perspective of Mrs McGill and was in part inspired by David Grayson’s novel "The Friendly Road." Morley wrote a sequel to this story called "The Haunted Bookshop.

Emile Gaboriau first introduced the young police officer and detective Monsieur Lecoq in his novel L'Affaire Lerouge. He based his character on an actual thief who later became no less than the head of the Paris police -- Eugine Francois Vidocq. As a character, Lecoq would later influence Arthur Conan Doyle in his creation of Sherlock Holmes. In this, his first foray into detection, Lecoq reveals his mastery of the art of disguise and his zeal for detection. Monsieur Lecoq: Volume I is the first of a two-part novel and details the crime and ensuing investigation.

Sherlock Holmes and Watson are asked to assist on a home invasion and murder case. A woman reports that a gang of men broke into her home, killed her husband, tied her up, and stole the family silver. Though it seems like a clear-cut case of robbery gone wrong, Holmes' gut tells him otherwise. But what motive lies behind this erstwhile victim’s story?

Is the world’s most famous detective on his deathbed? When Dr Watson finds Sherlock Holmes wasting away from a rare tropical disease, he must act fast if he is to save the life of his best friend. Sherlock Holmes, of course, may well have one more trick up his sleeve....

Whilst the retired Art Supplier Josiah Amberley was at the theatre, his wife ran away with a young man and a good deal of their money. Amberley wants Holmes to track her down, but the latter is too busy and sends Watson in his stead. But it soon turns out that Holmes is not the only one who has been asked to solve this case. Arthur Conan Doyle’s atmospheric short story is brought vividly to life by Robert Hardy.

"The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" is the series of short stories that made the fortunes of the Strand magazine, in which they were first published, and won immense popularity for Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson. The detective is at the height of his powers and the volume is full of famous cases, including The Red-Headed League, The Blue Carbuncle, and The Speckled Band. Although Holmes gained a reputation for infallibility, Conan Doyle showed his own realism and feminism by having the great detective defeated by Irene Adler - the woman - in the very first story, A Scandal in Bohemia.
