I november 2016 døde Peter Øvig Knudsens mor. Allerede samme dag besluttede forfatteren, at han ville skrive en bog om hende - og om at være barn af en psykisk syg. I de følgende måneder gik han i gang med sit dokumentariske arbejde som så mange gange før: Han opsøgte dem, der havde kendt hans mor, og bad om aktindsigt i hendes psykiatriske journaler.

This book is a true account of how I personally came back from the abyss of depression as well as two attempts at committing suicide 2019. After many challenges in my life, which included a brutal divorce, estrangement from my children, my business falling apart, being alone for the first time, and trying to date again at 52, I went to a very dark place. The emotional scars left over from a failure and as it was explained to me "a death of a relationship" ran very deep. Deeper than I could have ever imagine.

Life is presented to all of us a game that we must engage. It is up to you whether the wins and the losses define you or dictate your emotional state of (mental) well-being. This book is my honest account of the moments offering me the inspiration to evolve, and I believe there are nuggets of wisdom to be discovered in book to come. Know the mental grind is real and that there may be a tsunami of mental illness cases to come in the very near future if we do not rapidly disseminate hope.

I lost my dad five years ago, and have been chronicling my journey from the start, from loss to grief to, unfortunately for me, depression. I've tried my absolute best to put my thoughts and feelings onto paper for this process, with the hope that someone, somewhere, can find value in it. It's been a tough old road; there's no denying that. And my search for a meaningful way forward has led me to writing this book. I hope it can help those who need it.

A little over a year of living with bipolar type one. I ended a year off of medications deeply in love and with a stay in jail for joy-riding and fleeing and eluding. My family suffered, my friends suffered, and I suffered. This is a journal starting after my stay in jail. I respond to the journal entries all the following year, surprised mostly by the degree of my mental illness. This is not a self-help audiobook, and I struggle most of the time, not really coming up with many good solutions to my issues. Nothing about the past couple years has been easy.

The truth is that there are days when you just can’t, and it’s hard to make it through the day, but you try your hardest to do it. You try so hard to live a normal life. But it’s like walking around with a boulder around your neck. It’s been a long road for me. That’s why I wanted to share this book.

At 95 years old, Marjorie "Madge" Ellen Street finally gets to writing down and telling her life story. At the end of the story, she has a few "featurette" short stories, as well as an interview with her grandson Ryan, with some deep questions about the lessons of her life, a short story about her second husband Peter Street, written by his son Mike Street, birth to 44 and a half, July 1963. Finally, a bonus short story, to Peter’s life story, age 44 and a half to 73, as told by Madge Street.
