Although Paul Auster and J. M. Coetzee had been reading each other’s books for years, the two writers did not meet until February 2008. De Profundis is a 50,000-word letter written by Oscar Wilde during his imprisonment in Reading Gaol, to Lord Alfred Douglas, his lover. Wilde wrote the letter between January and March 1897; he was not allowed to send it, but took it with him upon release. In it he repudiates Lord Alfred for what Wilde finally sees as his arrogance and vanity; he had not forgotten Douglas's remark, when he was ill, "When you are not on your pedestal you are not interesting."

George Gordon Byron was born in 1788, the son of the profligate 'Mad Jack' Byron, and succeeded to the title in 1798 moving to the family seat of Newstead Abbey. He attended Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he proved to be a poor scholar, preferring boxing, the low life and poetry, publishing his first volume of poems in 1806. In 1809, at 21, he embarked on a grand tour of Europe and on his return to England he married the humourless Annabella Milbanke, who gave birth to his daughter Augusta in 1815.

A Day in the Life of a Soul has been a momentous endeavor of extracting, writing, and editing my diary entries which chronicle my lifetime experiences over the 66 years I have been with you here on earth. This book also details my four NDEs (near death experiences) and multiple OBEs (out of body experiences). Although this manuscript was originally intended to be a book of uplifting spiritual stories it transitioned into my own lifetime biography. Although the stories presented herein may not appear to have overt spiritual significance, they each have had a direct impact on the growth and evolution of my soul.
