Seventeen-year-old Pippa Reyes, who discovers that she is a werecat, believes that her only chance of survival is to escape New York and travel across the barren lands of the United States to reach a safehold for her kind. With the aid of her friends, Aiden and Abby Hunter, the three teens head west, across a nearly destroyed terrain infested with ferals attempting to snatch their lives at every turn.

Things definitely got ugly in beautiful Paradise Valley when Penelope decided she was better than any of the other unicorns, most specifically, her sister Cloud. When Cloud was chosen to become the herd's next doctor, Penelope snapped. She'd just take a tiny bit of a toxic herb and feed it to the herd's doctor, her dad. An herb that only Penelope knew was in his breakfast. Luckily, she would just happened to have the cure for it. She'd save her beloved dad and finally be the cool one. What could go wrong? Plenty!

Dissension is brewing between the clans in Zomb Valley. The Dactylas, a once-peaceful herd of mystical herbivores, are willing to starve in order to break the curse. On the other hand the Polycerate clan is willing to kill in order to keep the curse alive.
