Once, I held a naive belief in the inherent triumph of good over evil, convinced that humanity, under the guardianship of the divine, would inevitably ascend through our collective efforts. Yet, as I traversed the globe, immersing myself in diverse cultures and histories, I bore witness to a reality far more complex than my idealistic notions. It is for the preservation of our collective future, that I pen these words—to articulate my observations, present my arguments, and propose solutions that may shield us from the disillusionment bred by both human frailty and the indifference of fate.

In his 1920 book The Jews of Africa, Mendelssohn attempts to chart the separate and progressive histories of the Jews in the different parts of Africa where they lived since their expulsion from the land by the Romans.
