熨斗は「のし」と読み、お祝いを持って行く時に使う袋に付いている物と言えば、おわかりでしょう。

歌舞伎や文楽の名作「義経千本桜」を採り入れたパロディ落語で、かなり昔から人気演目の一つでした。滑稽味満載の内容に、恐ろしさがスパイスとして、ピリリと緊張を加えています。

上方落語の冬の代表作の一つですが、東京落語でも頻繁に演じられます。但し、東京落語で演じる場合、夏のネタになっているのが面白い。
