While Wisconsin is now perhaps best known for its die-hard love of both the Green Bay Packers and its cheese, deep beneath the surface of Wisconsin history simmers a cesspool of nightmares that began before the term serial killer had been coined. The horror started when Ed Gein tried desperately to bring back his dead mother by first exhuming bodies, then by killing in order to harvest female body parts that he himself would wear.

Born in 1933, Philip Zimbardo is a renowned and controversial American social psychologist who is fascinated by why people can sometimes behave in awful ways. Some psychologists believe people who commit cruelty are innately evil. Zimbardo disagrees. In his 2007 book, The Lucifer Effect, he argued that it is the power of situations around us that can cause otherwise good people to commit "evil", citing many historical examples to illustrate his point.

During the war period, an estimated 5,000 females served as guards in concentration camps. These Nazi wardresses would often times be more brutal than their male counterparts. The graphic violence that occurred under the watch of these women would go on to shock and terrify the public. Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS, the movie that essentially spawned the cult subgenre that is now known as Naziploitation, or Nazi Exploitation, was based on Ilse Koch, an overseer at several concentration camps run by her husband, Karl-Otto Koch.
