Este texto está pensado para acercar a los niños y jóvenes a una de la experiencias más apasionantes que se han dado en el territorio americano: la Expedición Botánica. La narración no se limita a los asuntos técnicos concernientes a la Expedición; por los 59 breves capítulos discurre la vida cotidiana de aquellos días junto con reflexiones sobre la botánica, la zoología, la entomología y la física, y anécdotas sobre los protagonistas, que por entonces definían el curso de nuestra historia.
