Author Avery Washington's style of poetry is compassionate and thought provoking. His childhood experiences, being raised by a single mother, have created this huge heart he has for women and children. Avery Washington's gift of words in Mother reads as a universal anthem for respecting the beautiful women in our lives. He has created a unique platform to pour out his love for not only his family, but for other families as well, setting an example that men can revere women without being regarded as weak.

Written in free verse, Hidden is a compelling tale about an unlikely friendship between two girls. Darra Monson and Wren Abbott first cross paths when Darra’s deadbeat dad is arrested for theft and kidnapping after he steals a car - unaware that Wren was sitting in the back. Years later, the girls - now teens - attend the same summer camp, and are forced to confront the fateful event that changed their lives.

"Mother" was originally published in numerous literary and poetry journals in the 1990s. It was included in the poetry compilation, All-American Texan, in 1999. Though short, the poem continues to create conversation, debate and enjoyment.

"My name is Colette. This book is about me. Who am I? To be perfectly honest, I'm not exactly sure who I am. I guess you could say I'm the 15-year-old daughter of an annoyingly famous movie star. Or maybe I'm the 18-year-old daughter of a famous movie star's stand-in. Or maybe I'm the thousand-year-old daughter of a vampire.... Having trouble guessing which one of these stories is true? My latest book is called Looking Back: A Poets Journey and is my sixth poetry book in just a year and a half. It has been a very tearful and emotional time as I wrote down the pages and started looking back at some of my fans favorites and some of the poetry that made the poet you see today. I hope that you enjoy listening to them as I have enjoyed writing them for you all. Words can never express the happiness that I have inside and I want to thank you all for such a wonderful journey so far.
