Chronicled in four parts, shifting restlessly between the author's childhood memories, the sudden disappearance of his brother, and the inevitable loss of his ailing mother, Late to the Search Party explores what it means to be a family of one—to be orphaned, whether by fate or by circumstance. In language that is both grounded and ethereal, Dawson tallies the losses and looks at what remains: the frustration and anger, the bewilderment and sadness—and the affection and humor that makes itself felt in spite of everything.

Lloyd Jones was seven years old the first time he climbed high into a grandstand to watch rugby with his father. The experience was baptismal. From his new elevated perspective Jones believed he could see everything that mattered – a field of play that rolled out, green with promise, from suburban New Zealand to the wider world. The grandstand is a guiding metaphor for these questing narrative poems that reach back into childhood and forward into the life of a writer constantly experimenting with form and voice.

Author Daniel L. Walker has written many poems about difficult times he experienced in his life. His debut poetry novel 2015 Mary Ballard Award Nominee titled: God's Rain talks about his personal demons, his marriage to co-author Teirra Walker, and dealing with rumors that his father allegedly molested a family member. Just as life began to look promising he would face tragedy with the untimely passing of his wife Teirra N. Walker.

But Family Poems is so extensive, with over one hundred original poems, in the variations for such relatively few categories, I felt the ability for the listener to "see" the full inside index of included titles, was essential. Within the categories of mom and dad, children and grandchildren, brothers and sisters, and extended family, my wife Sheila and I present the past and present body of poetry that began our wanting to create this many poems.

When Reena; her little brother, Luke; and their parents first move to Maine, Reena doesn't know what to expect. She's ready for beaches, blueberries, and all the lobster she can eat. Instead her parents "volunteer" Reena and Luke to work for an eccentric neighbor named Mrs. Falala, who has a pig named Paulie, a cat named China, a snake named Edna - and that stubborn cow, Zora.

A little over a year of living with bipolar type one. I ended a year off of medications deeply in love and with a stay in jail for joy-riding and fleeing and eluding. My family suffered, my friends suffered, and I suffered. This is a journal starting after my stay in jail. I respond to the journal entries all the following year, surprised mostly by the degree of my mental illness. This is not a self-help audiobook, and I struggle most of the time, not really coming up with many good solutions to my issues. Nothing about the past couple years has been easy.

Mom has a great job, everyone's grades are up, they're all making new friends and have even gotten involved in afterschool activities. Now their father is back in the picture and everyone knows its smooth sailing from there, right? Wrong.

Across three sequences, Joshua Bennett’s new book recalls and reimagines social worlds almost but not entirely lost, all while gesturing toward the ones we are building even now, in the midst of a state of emergency, together. Bennett opens with a set of autobiographical poems that deal with themes of family, life, death, vulnerability, and the joys and dreams of youth.

In a strange twist of kismet, Remica Bingham-Risher's paternal great-great-great grandmother, Minnie Lee Fowlkes, is interviewed for the Works Progress Administration Slave Narratives in Petersburg, Virginia in 1937, and her maternal grandmother, Mary Knight, is sent to Petersburg in 1941, diagnosed with "water on the brain"—postpartum depression being an ongoing mystery—nine days after birthing her first child.
