For most of Tony Gilbert's life, he has thought of his uncle as "Weird Uncle Charlie". That is, until Uncle Charlie moves in with Tony and his family. Uncle Charlie is still odd, of course - talking about spirits and other supernatural stuff - but he and Tony become fast friends, and Tony ends up having a lot of fun with Uncle Charlie. When Uncle Charlie dies suddenly, Tony is devastated. Then he starts seeing Uncle Charlie everywhere!

Smile! It’s picture day! Except maybe don’t smile, because there’s a glowing lost-and-found box that’s appeared in the cafeteria. Sure, coming to Strangeville Middle has been an adjustment for new kid Harvey Hill, but things seem to be going well. That is, until strange things happen that may or may not be related to a 50-year-old curse (if, of course, curses were real, which they definitely are not).

He decides he must find the Great Library, where all true knowledge is stored. Unfortunately, the only people who know the location of the Great Library are a covert network of librarian-spies who have sworn to protect the Library’s secrets. And when one of Runt’s professors is attacked, it soon becomes clear that others are also out to find the Library at any cost. Meanwhile, Runt’s not the only one whose days are numbered.
