First Century

The First World War was fought over a century ago, its pursuit by the European powers utterly reckless and ending with great consequential misfortune for humanity. Four generations later, the "Great War" has been forgotten by most Americans. The European and Commonwealth nations staged elaborate and moving commemorations during the centennial years of 2014 to 2018 to remember the shared sacrifices and enormity of the war. The general lack of such events in the United States marked the stark difference between how Americans and their allies looked back on that calamity.

Martha Owen has not had an easy start in life. Her abusive father dominates the family and she has lost her only friend after a painful falling-out. June 1914. Edie Moore is a Governess for Lord and Lady Moreland, living comfortably at the grand Downland House in Sussex. But, wanting more from life, she flees to Littlehampton, where she spent many idyllic childhood holidays. Desperate for work, Edie begins working as a chambermaid at the prestigious Beach Hotel, despite the menial tasks being a far cry from her previous job. But as she navigates her new life, friendships, and rivalries, she also grows closer to charming, cheerful porter, Charlie Cobbett, and finally finds the happiness she has been searching for.

In A 21st-Century Version of Galatians, Dundy goes through a verse-by-verse analysis of the entire book. He does a side-by-side comparison of his version with the World English Bible so that the listener can dig deep to mine the rich meaning of the text.

1916. Young artist Sam Burke is spared death by firing squad on the battlefields of France and brought to a remote castle by the Irish Sea. At the ‘Tin Nose Shop’, he is tasked with creating intricate masks to hide the mutilated faces of his fellow soldiers from the Front. While he tries to come to terms with the death of his best friend and the promise he failed to keep, Sam and the disfigured soldiers struggle to return to their former lives and their loved ones.

WWI is waning in Europe, but Lieutenant Barksdale’s near-constant aerial combat missions have taken their toll. Lura Lee Dunn is an aspiring concert pianist whose own personal battle is just beginning.
