The original English fairy tale "Jack and the Beanstalk" appeared in 1734 and was titled "The Story of Jack Spriggins and the Enchanted Bean". It was popularized by Joseph Jacobs in English Fairy Tales in 1890. In this sequel to the story Jacques and the Magic Beanstalk, it is Jack's son, Jacques, who has his own adventures in the Land of the Giants, a land of which his father had never spoken.
