At the Manhattan High School for the Arts, where everyone is “different” and everyone is “special,” Gretchen Yee feels ordinary. She’s the kind of girl who sits alone at lunch, drawing pictures of Spider-Man, so that she won’t have to talk to anyone; who has a crush on Titus but won’t do anything about it; who has no one to hang out with when her best (and only real) friend, Katya, is busy.

Naomi is lost in an isolated world, with an alcoholic dad and a mom trying to survive. Her best friend, Shelby, offers her love, through occasional hook-ups, with her boyfriend’s friends. When her mind can no longer handle life, her body reacts with anxiety and sends her to the doctors, where she meets Green, the new nurse. Green offers a listening ear to Naomi and her teenage problems. Will the unexpected friendship started between Naomi and Green be enough to save her lonely soul?
