Opal Ward arrives on the diverse campus of Branson University looking for a fresh start. She’s seventeen, nervous, and craving connection. So, when a persuasive senior named Thomas invites her to the Aranea Society—the most exclusive and mysterious group on campus—she agrees. Not because she believes the hype. The Great New Deal provides a (not quite) fictional preview of future history. This future period may not be as soon as tomorrow, this week, or even this month. Then again, maybe it will be. A global pandemic, political conflict, and social unrest shake America and the world. Leaders learn of an impending existential crisis and work to solve it. Millions are lost in the Great Surprise. Subsequent disasters claim more lives and disrupt communications, infrastructure, and the economy. Emotions are tested and communities unravel.

This book explores the reality suggesting that, in fact, none of what is happening across the globe is happening by chance. Right under humanity’s nose, supranational organizations such as the United Nations, the Club of Rome, and Klaus Schwab’s World Economic Forum strive to usurp national sovereignties in the quest for a dystopian future.
