Hippias of Elis travels throughout the Greek world practicing and teaching the art of making beautiful speeches. On a rare visit to Athens, he meets Socrates who questions him about the nature of his art. Socrates is especially curious about how Hippias would define beauty. They agree that "beauty makes all beautiful things beautiful," but when Socrates presses him to say precisely what he means, Hippias is unable to deliver such a definition. The more Socrates probes, the more absurd the responses from Hippias become.

En Apología de Sócrates, Platón da una versión del discurso que Sócrates pronunció como defensa, ante los tribunales atenienses, en el juicio en el que se le acusó de corromper a la juventud y no creer en los dioses de la polis. The Treasure was originally taken from the Second Temple in 69 AD, just before the Romans sacked Jerusalem and the Temple. The Treasure was split up and hidden in 64 different places in and around Jerusalem. Those locations were documented on the Copper Scroll found with the Dead Sea Scrolls. The first of these scrolls were found by Bedouins in caves at Qumran in 1947. The Copper Scroll was later found in cave number 3 by professionals in 1952.

Sokrates, geboren 469 v. Chr. und durch den Schierlingsbecher 399 v. Chr. hingerichtet, war ein griechischer Philosoph aus Athen und gilt als eine der Hauptgestalten des abendländischen Denkens. Er schuf die Methode der Mäeutik, "der Hebammenkunst". Durch Fragen und nicht durch Belehren des Gesprächspartners sollte dieser seine Erkenntnis selbst "gebären", selbst hervorbringen. Die Einsicht in die Fragwürdigkeit des eigenen Wissens war hierbei ein essentieller Punkt.

"Non poche sentenze verissime, diverse considerazioni sottili, molti precetti, e ricordi sommamente utili, oltre una grata semplicità e dimestichezza del dire, fanno assai prezioso e caro questo libricciuolo." Inizia in questo modo la premessa di Giacomo Leopardi, che nel 1825 tradusse "L'Enchiridion" - che significa: oggetto che si tiene in mano - conosciuto come "Manuale di Epitteto".Si tratta di un insieme di regole filosofiche, etiche e stoiche, messe insieme attorno all'anno 100 d.C.

Fils d'une famille de l'aristocratie athénienne, Platon semblait être destiné à occuper des responsabilités politiques de tout premier ordre. Mais sa rencontre avec Socrate bouleverse ces plans. À la mort du maître, il se consacre, via l'écriture et l'Académie qu'il fonde en 387, à la transmission de la pensée novatrice de Socrate.

L'Apologia di Socrate è un testo giovanile di Platone. Scritto tra il 399 e il 388 a.C., è la più credibile fonte di informazioni sul processo a Socrate, oltre a quella in cui la figura del vecchio filosofo è probabilmente meno rimaneggiata dall'autore.
