Grief Biography

Letters for Brenda is unapologetically autobiographical. It is Richard's story - a chronological account of how grief manifested itself in his life following his wife's death and how he dealt with it. His faith remained strong, but his heart was breaking. Never had he felt so alone. Not lonely. Alone. To process his grief, he needed to talk about it but he had no one to talk to. Who would understand? Only Brenda, his soul mate - but she was gone and she wasn't coming back. Out of desperation, he decided to write her a series of letters.

After losing her 17-year-old daughter in a car accident, Sara began writing. Her words exposed the wounds that only others who experience seismic grief can truly understand. Laying bare the emotional and spiritual sojourn in the days and weeks that followed, she gives listeners a glimpse at the challenges and revelations of a life after tragedy.

Emergence is defined as the process of coming into view or becoming exposed to something after it being concealed. It is also defined as the process of coming into being, or of becoming important or prominent after being in a place of obscurity.

For Chelsey, death was unthinkable. When her only surviving parent, her beloved father, was violently murdered days before her 14th birthday, Chelsey's life was forever changed. As she was forced to come to terms with a new home life, a new school...a new identity as an orphan, Chelsey struggled to make sense of her personal tragedy. Yet she found a way to flourish despite all the odds.

"Dear Angel" is a poignant and deeply personal collection of letters, each addressed to a significant person in my life, both living and deceased. The book explores themes of loss, grief, redemption, and the complex bonds of family and friendship within a challenging urban environment. The letters to Nick, Grandma Lil, Danny, Sasha, Grandpa, and West are filled with raw emotion, expressing my grief and longing for those who have passed away. These letters serve as a way for me to process his emotions, reflect on shared memories, and acknowledge the impact these individuals had on my life.

I lost my dad five years ago, and have been chronicling my journey from the start, from loss to grief to, unfortunately for me, depression. I've tried my absolute best to put my thoughts and feelings onto paper for this process, with the hope that someone, somewhere, can find value in it. It's been a tough old road; there's no denying that. And my search for a meaningful way forward has led me to writing this book. I hope it can help those who need it.

The Reverend Doctor Herbert F. Brokering, pastor, author, lyricist, speaker, and hymn writer of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), died Nov. 7 of congestive heart failure at his apartment in Bloomington, Minn., according to his son, Mark. The Evangelical Lutheran Church of America news service says in its report, "Brokering, 83, was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Bloomington."
