We've all been to haunted house attractions on Halloween that have people made up to be scary-looking to scare us even though it is all fake, and we know it, but we don't care; we just want to be scared. Meet Henry Adams. He loves going to haunted attractions, but was getting bored and not scared anymore, so he decided he was going to make his own Haunted attraction that would be to die for - literally. Henry wanted to be the envy of all Halloween attractions, and he was going to do it in a deadly way.

This ghost story is a very unusual tale for O. Henry - longer than most and one of the few he wrote that dealt with the supernatural.

It was Halloween again, October 31st, just like all the Halloweens before it. But this Halloween would change the world forever. The Devil decided to go against God's wishes of only having enough power to deceive our way of being able to choose between good and evil. As the darkness set in and the trick-or-treaters headed out of their homes to get candy, the Devil entered every trick-or-treater's mind using mental telepathy.
