Halloween Horror

Morgan, an early settler is finding it hard to fit into their new community along with his wife and teenage daughter Suzie. And during his fortnightly visit into town, several miles away, he learns that it will only get harder as the winds of winter blow in upon them. Travel with Morgan and his daughter into the sick society he did not suspect dwelled so close to them within these cold, lonely mountains.

It's Halloween, the witching time of year, and for the small town of DenMark this is the worst time of year. Why? Well, because DenMark is cursed with a horrible old witch living on Bone Crusher Lane. Every year at this time, the townsfolk lock up their homes against the witch. You see, DenMark has a curse on it in the name of old Lucille Peacock. Every All Hallows' Eve, the witch steals a child from the townsfolk - call it a sacrifice. This night, however, something has changed in DenMark.

For the month of October 2017, J. Ellington Ashton Press, on their Wicked Little Things blog-talk radio, broadcasted a series of Halloween stories. These “Fireside Stories” (as they were called) were a big hit with the listeners, and the decision was quickly made to publish these tales of terror in an anthology.

Jonah and Judas are back! (JJ and Xanadu too!) Spending an all too rare, quiet night at home, the brothers indulge themselves in beer and video games, refusing to answer their endlessly ringing phone. It's Halloween, the one night a year they take off for fear of idiots trying to be funny and pretending to be zombies. That's ended badly for them once before. But when they receive a desperate call from an old co-worker, they venture out against their better judgment.

"Once a year, evil is allowed to return to the earthly world. And if it is on the prowl for a victim, there is no escape. It will lurk in the dark. Year after year. Every Halloween night."

It was Halloween again, October 31st, just like all the Halloweens before it. But this Halloween would change the world forever. The Devil decided to go against God's wishes of only having enough power to deceive our way of being able to choose between good and evil. The spirit gestured out over the mist covered graveyard before them. “Tonight is All Hallows Eve,” he breathed, “Halloween!” Melvin’s eyes widened as he turned his gaze to follow the ghosts’ hand. Distant howling floated back toward them on the chill breeze. “Tonight phantoms rise up from this last plot of hallowed ground. They assume form and substance and walk amongst the living!" A shiver ran down Melvin’s spine.
