War is a constant in human society and has been for thousands of years. That will not change anytime soon. Therefore, it behooves us to study war so that we can be better prepared as a society for the sacrifices required to achieve victory. In that respect, it is more important to study the defeated and to understand why they were defeated. Almost as important as the war itself, is the peace. Poor war termination leads to another war, while skillful war termination leads to long-term settlement.
