History Myths

The world hates the Church that Jesus founded, just as He said it would (John 15:18). It reviles her doctrines, mocks her moral teachings and invents lies about her history. In every age, but especially in our modern day, historians and political powers have distorted the facts about her past (or just made up novel falsehoods from scratch) to make the Church, and the civilization it fostered, seem corrupt, backward, or simply evil.

Using objects that Americans have saved through the centuries and stories they have passed along, as well as histories teased from documents, Laurel Thatcher Ulrich chronicles the production of cloth—and of history—in early America. Under the singular and brilliant lens that Ulrich brings to this study, ordinary household goods provide the key to a transformed understanding of cultural encounter, frontier war, Revolutionary politics, international commerce, and early industrialization in America.

Patrick Hunt has been teaching in Humanities at Stanford University for the past 20 years. His Ph.D. is from the Institute of Archaeology at University College London, University of London in 1991. He is a National Lecturer for the Archaeological Institute of America since 2009 and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society since 1989. National Geographic Society has sponsored some of his archaeology fieldwork. He appears frequently on PBS, NOVA, National Geographic and History Channel broadcasts.
